Seeing that this is a global forum and we Yanks have the day off (it is a bit of a holiday over here). Just curious what you foreigners think of the United States and who we are at the moment... what is the current global view of the US in your eyes, you from foreign countries with alien standards...

The flag to me still stands for truth and justice, and the american way for me is still a sense of freedom from oppression. Are People are still coming to America to find a new life and world... Is it better here?

I'm curious as to what others think. I'd say what I think, but my views, apparently, are "costing me friends", so I think I'd better not.

I once went to Monaco...

... but despite it's beauty and it's tax advantages, it's like living full time at a five-star resort! I think I'll stay right here in the good ole USA and help rebuild this tattered Constitutional Republic! Happy Birthday America!

Interesting question Matt

It's hard to comment on some specific things - American politics, like your football, are quite confusing to outsiders! :) On a general level, I think the ideals the USA stands for - democracy, equality, justice, are very, very admirable; and I know that various Administrations, like all political entities, have had shortcomings in living up to those ideals over the years, but I'd like to believe that the USA still pursues those ideals with an honourable fervency.

Australia follows America's political lead in many aspects of foreign policy, which is to be expected. We're old allies, and we believe in the same Western ideals. Whether it's always for good or bad (think Iraq) I really don't know. I wish I knew what really went on behind closed doors in the citadels of power (both political and economic) in both our countries.

On a personal level, to someone who comes form a land of only 20 million residents, the USA seems like an almost frighteningly enormous and diverse place, a wonderland of enthralling pop culture and vast cities, bizarre fast foods and enchanting theme parks, and beautiful tracts of wilderness. Every American I've met has been a pleasure to talk to, and in quite a few cases, become friends with. In cultural outlook and general world views, we're very similar.

I don't trust Australian politicians very much, because I know very well about their incompetence and/or outright wrongdoings. Lacking that knowledge about American politicians, I'm loath to pass any kind of judgement on them. But I believe in the people of the USA and what the nation stands for, and along with Great Britain and the nations of her Commonwealth, theres' no other people I'd rather have as allies and friends.

Benny, our politicians aren't any different.
Heck, in my state, Louisiana, politics, political chicanery and corruption are the second most popular spectator sport, just behind football.
