If Willy Wonka made leather jackets...

Perhaps, dragging back this thread that I've derailed myself, we should run a book on what we expect/want to see next week. I think, and I may be wrong, there's something like 16 new designs on the slate. :D

16!!! Wow, can't wait to see what they are going with! Could be an expensive time for all of us!

Ha, Mr S, you'll need to ask Holly. I'm just a fan. But as far as that fetching blue hide goes, I'm not sure if it's quite 30s or 40s fit...

I know, but she's pretty busy atm and I don't like to pester her with my particular brand of BS at times like these. I'm considerate like that

If you can find out anything be sure to report back to the group!

I don't suppose they're going to but I'd reckon such a store would do a good trade. It doesn't have to be London of course, anywhere in the South of England would be great

I do know that Ken was once offered an outlet in Tokyo - literally, he was shown the shop that would be Aero's - but turned it down. I think it comes down to not wanting to debase your brand.

Well, the plan is to drive up there in August but that's one drive I'm not looking forward to!

At least in August I'll miss out on the 'sailing' that I recall you once mentioned in another thread on this topic

Good on him! Must have been tempting though, there's some big business to be had over their with leather jackets.

I suppose that from a pure business point of view, Aero don't need a shop anywhere as they can sell 100% of their output from their existing, probably relatively cheap to run factory. A shop would probably either mean longer waiting times for those who'd prefer the odd minor modification or increasing capacity by taking on more staff and possibly larger premises, and potentially ultimately diluting the brand image.

Once they get their profit back on track after the alleged goings-on of the last few years, I'm sure the Calder family will be in a much comfier place than they have been recently and probably deserve a couple of years of relative calm before considering world domination.

I guess the problem is 'burn out'. One moment you're flavour of the month, then one too many people own your jacket and *vwip* that's it: you're no longer cool and its mall jackets ahoy!

If you've got the weather, it's a lovely drive in the Borders, and the factory visit is a unique experience, so you've got the perfect carrot.

of course that all makes good sense WDW. I'm just thinking about myself here! It doesn't seem right that if I lived in Seattle (Insurrection land) I'd be better placed than I am now.

It's OK. That drive will be an adventure. Perhaps I'll stop over in a hotel for the night and check out something else while I'm there. For that amount of petrol I'm thinking I outta get some value. Plus when I get to the promised land I want to be wide awake to take it all in, not road fatigued

Schitzo, if you're going in August, will you be going on to the Edinburgh Festival and Fringe? It'll be heaving then and livelier than a bag of ferrets, and I mean that in a good way. I love Edinburgh in August, and Galashiels will seem like the dark side of the moon in comparison, but in a relaxing leather-smelling kind of way.

And Schitzo, you're about 45 minutes from Edinburgh, so plenty to look at, but I'd recommend a trip to Hawick and Selkirk, both very nice. Gala's not got a huge amount, tbh, it's big thing is that it's one of Scotland's big textile production centres (hence the textile college there).

I looked at the cheap flights from Luton to Edinburgh and I think they were about £60 - but then of course you have the problem of being still an hour away. Well, an hour was what Google told me if I remember correctly

@WDW I'd completely forgotten about the Edinburgh festival. One of my pals, apparently, went down very well there last year. Would definitely like to kill these 2 birds with the same stone. Another good tip! Thx man

The Bow Bar on West Bow (up in the old town, not far from the Castle) is worth the trip on its own!:D;)

Kelso has a few good pubs too. And some cool stuff to see and places to eat.
Back in October I stayed in Berwick Upon Tweed, it's a fair bus ride to Galashiels but some great little towns along the way.
I stopped off at Kelso, there is an RM Williams in town. They stock all the boots in all the sizes, also their the great jeans as well.
