If Willy Wonka made leather jackets...

Actually, guys, that image is (also) from one of the early paper catalogues that Aero used to put out. This was when they sold shoes and all sorts of other beautiful things.

My god, am I the longest-standing Aero buyer here?

SJ

I didn't realise... what a coincidence! I made the invite, found it when googling for inspiration! :)

A few things... an Aero shop is something that has been discussed at various points, but nothing in the pipeline. We have our hands full with various things right now, but who knows what the future will hold.

And why not bring those retro paper catalogues back? A great marketing tool and fun thing to have. Although, now I think about it, maybe it was Sam Walker that brought those out.

Full of desirable things my then 20-something self couldn't afford.

Sam Walker did sell shoes, never seen them in an Aero catalogue, though I only have one. The shoes often come up on the Bay.
Paper seems to be a format now as handouts at shows etc.

We did have them, they are lovely things but time is an issue for us right now. We've been looking at doing something similar for a while, hopefully sometime soon when there's less going on behind the scenes.

Thanks. For £75 a night that looks a pretty good bet, and only £20 more to endure the missus! I'm not so sure she'd dig the aero factory tour.. although, on the other hand maybe this is the best way to convert her? At the moment she considers me a fetishist

EDIT: A leather jacket fetishist!

Is it the one you stayed in? Incidentally, you'd be classified as a a major league fetishist. In comparison I'm only minor league
Haven't stayed there. That's for the next trip. We were in Durham with longtime friends, so we drove up and back in one day. Too little time, but it was cold as hell!

And another place to stop could be:
Castle Vale House Railway St, Berwick-upon-Tweed, Northumberland TD15 1NF, United Kingdom
+44 1289 303699 ‎
It's right outside the Railway station, not even across the road. Beautiful view of the Tweed looking towards Coldstream with the rail bridge setting it off. The lady that runs the place is a little eccentric but its a friendly atmosphere in a pleasant setting.

PS Direct bus to Galashiels by the way.

My wife loves Melrose, about 4 km away down the river.

We stayed there and walked over to Galashiels along the river path. Summer days, and Aero at the end of the walk...in fact, lots of great walks in the area.

This sounds kind of like when Homer Simpson bought his wife a bowling ball!

lol I don't know for sure, on account of not having any, but I'd guess that breasts and FQHH on a tight fitting 30s halfbelt go together like cornflakes and gravy

Perhaps a lighter hide might work as I doubt Miss SJ would want to tolerate a 'break in' period

I think a Veste de Rallye could work for the ladies, it has a kind of 1960s feel to it. Maybe in goat or a mid-weight hide.

Depends on the girl of course...I could see a woman looking great in any of of the many MC styles (J106) a type III leather jean jacket or maybe the grizzly or palomino jackets... furs look better on girls anyway (unless you are Joe Namath or Clyde Frazier)

Jack, your wife is clearly a woman of taste and refinement :) My family comes from Melrose and we often go back to visit and walk along the River Tweed. IMHO, it's infinitely preferable to Galashiels, although inevitably it's expanded quite a bit over the decades.

My biased advice to any outsider would be to stay in quaint, sleepy and historic Melrose and visit Aero from there. It would be less than 10 minutes drive or not much longer by bus.
