Now this is something even Steven should realize: never, I say never put a nail thru a straw hat!.... You got a great deal on a great hat imho.

Try spraying distilled water

on the wrinkles and then smoothing them. The ribbon should shrink into place on the hat. I learned this from JT on here. If that doesn't work, use steam. I learned that from Art Fawcett.

Knox Panama has arrived - but it's too small!!!

The hat is very nice - great condition. It's marked 7 3/8 but unfortunately it fits like a 7 1/4 :( Does anyone know if it's possible to stretch a Panama? I've got a wooden stretcher in it now but I'm afraid to crank it and watch the weave rip apart. Anybody out there have success stretching a Panama? Please... advice... quick!

Sorry to hear about that. Here's what I've done in the past: dampen the straw just enough to be flexible and then STRETCH THE HELL OUT OF IT!

But that's just me.

Did you have any luck stretching this hat? I'm interested in stretching a straw hat myself.

The stretching worked perfectly! I recommend doing it gradually - don't crank the stretcher too much at first. Should be fine - good luck!

First OFAS rule on hats - never believe a tagged size- get the circumference!
