Hurricane Sandy

We're getting the wind but not the rain, and my ears are popping like crazy. Somehow I don't think we'll have a show tonite, but the official word hasn't come down, so I'm still planning to go to work.

PLEASE STAY SAFE LIZZIE! I hope you have someone to go with you.

At present it is 55F. and falling, with 100% humidity with a nice rainy breeze gusting at present to 47mph, and the barometric pressure is 28.47 inches and dropping. All of this pleasant weather is brought to me complements of Hurricane Sandy. Ocean City NJ has had the ocean join the bay, and hence is underwater as are many NJ costal towns. The last time I heard 130,000 in NJ had lost power, but that was three hours ago. The trees are dancing wildly here and the lights have flicked several times. I well expect that at some point it is likely we will lose power. I am more concerned about a tree clobbering the house or garage.

Might I suggest a little "dry humor" weather update theme. And please realize I am by no means making fun of others that are suffering. I am just keeping a stiff upper lip in light of whats going on. I might get clobbered also, but am making the best of it.

We're big fans of that joint, too. We also like Growlers in old town Gaithersburg.

I did not realize there were so many loungers in my hometown. Not that I live there anymore, but Germantown is home for me.

Please remember our servicemen, who don't let a little ole hurricane deter them from guarding the Tomb of the Unknown at Arlington Cemetary.

Great picture, but it is from a different storm. The point still stands though.

It's getting pretty bad out there. On the way home I passed a full sized mature tree on top of one of the houses. Our neighbors electric line is laying in our front yard and is still live. The whole house shakes with the wind. We're keeping the kids in the center of the house in case of one of the trees falling.

I passed about 6 police cars, 3 fire trucks and maybe 4 other non-emergency cars on the 15 minute drive home.

On the move again...
Stay safe gang! The wind is going to be the worst thing throwing things around. Hopefully everyone got plenty of provisions for this. Keep checking in when you can.

Cheers!

Sitting here with my window wide open. I hear whipping wind, a crash now and again, and sirens in the distance. No idea what the crashes are -- kinda sounds like someone throwing something in the trash dumpster but no one is......

Sipping on a few brews (Stowaway IPA from Baxter Brewing Co. in Lewiston) Police scanner on, not much going on except the downed power lines here and there one should expect. We got candles, a lighter to light them with, cell phones fully charged, food and beer. we're good. Police channels are quiet, I guess the big storm makes the druggies scared and stay inside!!

On a sidenote: the HMS Bounty (a 1960 replica of the original vessel, built for the film 'Mutiny On The Bounty' from 1962) has gone down near the coast of North Carolina. Most of the crew could be saved; the skipper is still missing.

Window open here too. Not really much of anything going on. A bit of a breeze, but nothing fun like crashes and sirens.

Here's a Golden Era make do and mend tip for storm days -- old worn-out stockings are great for tying your screen doors shut so they don't get torn off the hinges, fly across the street, and break your neighbor's porch windows.

You'd think they would have checked the weather forecast before sailing around in that area.

There is some Coastguard video on The Weather Channel of them winching up survivors from the Bounty.

Things seemed to gotten quieter here for the last half hour or so - of course as I type this, I hear the wind again and the lights do that flickery thing...

Wind's getting real whippy here. I just heard people outside yelling. lol Last August during the hurricane a bunch of people in this neighbourhood went outside and jumped around in it. Must've been them -- it sounded like fun yelling. lol

The facade of a four story building was shorn off in NYC. Downtown was evacuated, the power is being turned off in some parts of the city and mass transportation was completely shut down. We're located in western Queens and are experiencing rain and way deadly gusts of wind.
