How many new jackets do you have coming (and how many potential ones)?

After review it’s defintiely Finnish and 100% wool as for the grey field jacket. Here in Buffalo it’s a crisp, but not windy, snow on the ground but not in the sky, at least not until later tonight. Which means when I leave shortly to take pictures for a work event I think I will take it on it’s first outing.

Finnish indeed. "Valtion pukutehdas" means roughly translated "Goverment clothing factory". It is (was) finnish government owned factory that made clothing for finnish army, Police, firefighters and other government employees. Judging by style you have in your possession a model 65 (means year of uniform style) wool tunic. It's hard to judge the colour by the photos, but if it is grey, its finnish infantry coat and if it is blueish grey it's probably finnish airforce.

Fantastic information. It’s grey. So that would make it Finnish infantry. Not bad for 20 bucks.

Or whole suit in grey or dark blue:

grey: https://www.wanhantalontavarat.fi/tuotteet.html?id=20/152

blue: https://www.wanhantalontavarat.fi/tuotteet.html?id=20/528

if you want just another tunic in dark blue and they have your size you can have one from here for EUR 19,99: https://www.varusteleka.fi/fi/product/sa-m65-sarkatakki-ylijaama/60617

Thanks for all that info!

I’ll have to investigate how much shipping would be. Because there are some sporting sites and Army-Navy Surplus vendors stateside I found that carry them but only in grey! I don’t know if they are that much more common, or maybe the Finnish army recently switched and they have a ton of stock they need to get rid of? But whatever the case is, the small fits like a dream and will do nicely for brisk but not cold Fall and Spring days. So having one in grey I would definitely get another in the blue.

I think finnish army abandoned those from active use somewhere around year 2000. I know I wore those during my brief visit to finnish army in year 1995.

I can imagine there are lot's of those old uniforms floating around. Even though we are a small nation, 90% of male population goes to mandatory military service and we're part of reservist forces until age of 60. That also means, that the finnish army is prepared to cloth and arm something between 500 000 - 750 000 men in time of crisis. When they change uniforms in their crisis warehouse there is going to be a lot of surplus.

The grey will certainly hold me over until March. I have a birthday in March I’ll tell the gf to get the blue and make her pay the shipping! and then have a few months of spring weather to wear it in.

Ordered a Rainbow Country single riders jacket in seal brown back in August. Was told delivery will be around November. Needless to say the wait has been killing me. Finally, I just got an email from Mushmans saying it was shipped today!

I’ve lusted over this jacket for years as I think it’s the ultimate jacket in this style, but was always hesitant for one reason or another. I finally decided to just go for it.

Will post pics as soon as I get it.

@jeo : I love the RC single rider. I wish the dimensions worked for me. What size did you get?

I was worried about the dimensions as well. I got a 34. Mushmans site lists the shoulders in that size at 45 cm/17.7”, which seems way too big. All the other dimensions are spot on for me. I’m positive they just measure the shoulders differently.

This I believe was from two falls ago, The last G-1 I bought myself from Ebay.

The *Look* for me then (which ALWAYS changes) was the Hand knitted WWII wool Cap, Yes Just like the GI's of the day who's mothers were loving enough of their sons overseas to make them something to keep them warm.

There's a 70's Shirt and paisley tie, A US army sweater from the SAS surplus in kingston (they sometimes get the odds in short supply) It's a contemporary one which Is the same style as an original WWII one.

The Jeans are long gone now...Those shoes have probably god knows but I'd estimate more than 10,000 KMs of travel on them and are stitched with Fishing line to hold the soles together lovingly.

The Gloves are those nice Flight gloves that people ALWAYS steal from me every time!!! They're hard to find now, the only pair I have left are re-stitched at the palms they blew out on the finger tips of course too.

The glasses I'm not sure, probably the cheap ones from Canadian Tire for night driving.

Long underwear of course, Stanfields...and That's about all I can name for now Just looking back, that picture was from the Sandbanks provincial park on a COLD windy day overlooking the beach.

As for that G-1...it's hidden away as I got a nice Repro to beat the hell out of...all the adventures I miss having I'll be sure to write about in due time.

I PROMISED long time ago to make a good Flight Jacket Journal for all you romantic fools out there who want to know the durability of an N2-B Jacket.

I look like a poser in that photo but I'll do my best to assure you I've lived some harsh years and Slept in my clothes in harder times, The N2-B is my best secret weapon.

Forget what I paid for that G-1 but it was cheap because no one wanted it with the collar being so worn I suppose.

A GENEROUS person from the Fedora lounge gave me *GAVE* me a pair of A-2 Jacket cuffs from his extra set when he ordered from Eastman and requested I pay it forward and make a donation at Christmas time into the Salvation Army bucket...I did...and will do so this year as well in the spirit of Christmas.

Those cuffs are lovingly stitched on this particular Jacket and fit perfectly.

I think I've got half a dozen or so G-1s in my collection but it's been a lean year for me and I haven't made any new acquisitions, Don't know about you but I can't sell any of them.

I'm running out of room here with all the vintage clothes I've gotten into in the last few years...it's a little scary. I tried to run a pop-up at a summer market a few towns over but it was a disaster and I lost my shirt Just about.

Tourists ain't got no style, no taste man!!! Just deep pockets for Wine and food apparently...I'll talk about that experience another time.

I'll have to take some photos for you guys and maybe you can make me some offers on things in my collection maybe eh?

All kinds of stuff..all kinds, It's impossible to keep up, I have short supply of big bucks but what little I can stretch earns me well, I have good skills as far as hunting for quality vintage clothing.

Anyway apologies for not being around, times have been tight here for me in the last couple years.

I'm flat broke. My computer broke, then the replacement computer broke, until a friend gave me his old Mac computer I'm back in the game.

Anyway, LOVE YOU GUYS!!! Thanks for all the kind words and support over the years putting up with my meanderings and gripes.

I only wish I could spend more time in the company of such Lavishly dressed Gentlemen in all their finery.

cheers!

My exchange for the Schott 613SH is complete. Size 40 arrived a few hours ago. Feels like quite a difference from the size 42 I sent back. I can already see how the grain is starting to emerge in a few areas.

Should I clip the tags?

Ah I knew getting the proper size would have you feeling much differently about it! Excellent fit. Check back in with us in 6 months and let’s see how the break in process is going.
