Some questions for Lounge Bartenders:
That's okay Marc, fire away.
How did it happen? Did you volunteer, or was it offered to you?
Approached and offered (Just like the CIA at Harvard or Yale!). And YES, this little auld Scots/Irish country lad from across the pond being approached by the Big Shots from the US of A was (and remains) a real honour!! Why ME?? [huh]
When did you become a Bartender?
Nearly 3-years-ago, can you believe it [huh] Tempus Fugit when you are having so much fun
Why did you accept the position?
Good open questioning there Marc. Nice reporter's touch!
Actually, I was asked if I would manage and revamp the WWII room initially, as no-one at that time was overseeing it, and from what I remember it just needed someone at the helm to start shaping it into a place that WWII vintage enthusiasts would be attracted to.
I felt at the time that I had the vision, passion and enthusiasm to drive new blood into it and make it a place that would really come to life as one of the premier rooms on the Lounge, providing learning and a meeting place for like minded WWII souls.
When I came on board, I was bringing 15 years of newspaper/magazine journalism with me with a smattering of PR and Marketing experience, so hopefully that has helped with the shaping too.
Three years later (with a great partner in Zemke) and I think we've just about got there. It's been a great challenge and I'm still loving it!:eusa_clap
If you could do it all over again, would you?
Oh yes, and if possible with added features/links and navigation around that section. But Rome wasn't built in a day, and I honestly think the whole Lounge has evolved remarkably in such a short period of time with a great team of BT's and a super member base that covers the Globe!! We are truely an international club
What is the hardest part of your job?
Well, it would be nice to say all the vintage hot dates that go with the job! (but that's just wishful!!)
To be serious ladies and gents of the Lounge...It's recently been keeping track of all the threads (as this place has just exploded in numbers!! and soaring upwards as I write). If three years ago you'd said to me over the bar, "Paddy, this place will soon boast in excess of 5000 members!!" well, I'd find that hard to fathom, yet...here we are!! Just amazing!!
Also, if you were to have told me that we could create such an oasis of civility on the WWW (the WWW being a place that is renowned for attracting those that want to subvert and sabotage the enjoyment and online safety of others), again...I'd say, "That's quite a challenge!!"....."Yet TODAY on TFL, here we are!" and that's all down to the members and the Bartender admin team!
