Happens to us all, Brent. Pity; looks like a lovely hat.The only other thing hiding behind the sweat was a price tag:
Photos in the sun (the eBay color rendering sucks)

This is a real gem! I believe it was from the twenty of early thirty, after the GB Borsalino fu Lazzaro merged (1936) into the Giuseppe Borsalino.GB Borsalino fu Lazzaro homburg in olive/sage colour. Qualitá finissima. Green brim binding and brown ribbon. Brim 5,5cm and crown 11cm at the pinch. Unlined with a cloth crown partch. made for PJ Remkes, The Hague. Mothing damage on the underside of the brim (bot nowhere else). The pictures are the "before" shots. It received al well deserved naphta bath and came out quite a bit cleaner (but not entirely perfect). No label inside the hat, but a newspaper clipping with a date of 1935.
Daniele, thanks! I was really pleased to find this one. The other GB Borsalino fu lazzaro hats I have are the resurrected versions of the fifties. This one is the real deal. This is a real gem! The "real" Borsalino made during the years homburg with the same color and shape. Very interesting historical hat in the Borsalino saga and a very beatiful homburg along with the Habig of the same, more or less, color. Bravo Stefan!
I don't think the Melton looks bad, but I have to agree the larger brimmed one looks better on you. The subtle differences in hats makes them so fascinating.I bought this Melton last year as new old stock. I paid too much and found that the sweat was rotten. A trip to VS for some refreshing and I’m into it even more. The problem is that I just don’t like how I look wearing it.
It’s just too stingy. I can’t hope to recoup 1/4 of what I have into it so...? I’m actually tempted to have a go and making a fedora out of it.
Another hat in the proportions I prefer:
It never ceases to amaze me how such small changes make such a big difference.

The larger brim makes the Homburg look more "grand". Homburgs are like sex, its all good, just some better than others...I bought this Melton last year as new old stock. I like them both, but that Borsalino is a museum piece. Love the color of the Habig.P&C Habig homburg in brown. This one was part of a set of three with another Habig homburg in black (didn't buy that one) and the GB Borsalino fu Lazzaro homburg (posted earlier). According to the vendor part of the same auction. Makes sense. The black one was from 1952 and the GB Borsalino is from 1935. My guess is that this one is in between (it's lost its label); forties to early fifties.
Size 56, brim at 6cm and crown 10cm at the pinch. Unlined with a cloth crown patch. This is the "before" shoot. Most of the stains on the ribbon came out. Made expressly for Eduard Pelger, The Hague, which is still in business today. Fits me like a custom.

Thanks, Mike. The GB Borsalino is quite special. It does have some mothing on the underside of the brim, but it doesn't take away from the hat. Part of the package in this case. This was and is a well-worn, and I like to think well-loved, hat. To get it as good as it's going to get for its age I gave it the full naphta treatment (a first on a hat with this kind of pedigree for me). Been using everything I can think of to relieve it of the grime and dirt it collected over the decades. Very satisfying work.I like them both, but that Borsalino is a museum piece. Love the color of the Habig.
Try putting some side dents (more forward) on the smaller brim one. It will look more casual. Personally I just wear the hat and don't care about all the proportion stuff.I bought this Melton last year as new old stock. I paid too much and found that the sweat was rotten.
