Moderators: I don't know where else to ask this question so please put it wherever it should go.

Ever since I joined TFL, I have had problems with sending PM's and sometimes with posting. I am not really too swift on a computer so perhaps it's just me; or maybe it has something to do with the posting rules or something... Here is what happens: If I browse the forums for awhile and then go to respond to a post, I go to the quote box, bring it up, and post my reply. Sometimes it works just fine. Other times, I write a (sometimes lengthy) reply, hit submit, and it says I am not logged in!! So, I log in again, write my post (which disappeared) again, resubmit it, and I get the same screen. I just now tried to send a PM to Daisy Buchanan FOUR times!!! Each time, it told me I am not allowed to because I am not logged in! Or I don't have permission. Whatever am I doing wrong??? This is so frustrating!!! It takes so much time, and then it still won't go through. Any ideas? Thanks!

This has happened to me as well, especially with the lengthy replies-which is extremely frustrating cause I'm not the worlds fastest typer- all that work for nothing!!!!
I think it has something with the site thinking you've been inactive there too long [huh] -though I'm not a computer person either , who knows!
pm's; sometimes people's pm boxes are full.

Wish I could solve your problem, hopefully there's a bartender that can help you.

Just wanted to add that for lengthy posts, I highlight my text and copy it every so often, and also before hitting submit. I've lost them here and on other sites, and the rewritten ones are never very good. So I devised a backup plan. If it does get lost, you can paste it in the field after you log back in. Hope that helps.

This doesn't always work, but sometimes if you hit the back button on your browser as soon as you see that you need to sign in, it will take you back to what you wrote. Then you can copy it, and paste it when you get signed in again.

Snookie's right that you can copy as you go, or you can write the whole thing in a word processing or "notepad" program if you think it will be long, and then copy and paste.

I think it's just that the FL logs us out after a specific amount of time without input, and it's just too short a time for long responses.

I'm absolutely no expert, but maybe I will help if you hit the "refresh" button once in a while while you are writing a long post? I think maybe it is a way of telling the site that you are not inactive.... or maybe I am making a complete fool of myself now....;)

Chances are your browser has you logged in for only the window you are currently using. This happens to me often when I am at work because they have it set to clear any type of log in info upon window termination/creation.

The software this forum runs on isnt contained in one browser window, and will create a 'pop up' window when something is sent, or when a reply of some sort is made (that is very common). The only pattern I have found is if you are clicking on a link from the window you are viewing, then you may get a forign window asking for your log in again. Often these settings can be modified via your internet browser, as to how, I have no idea.

Hope this helps.

Thanks to all! Sort of glad to know it isn't just me having these problems...I HAVE tried the back button and sometimes that will work for me. Not always. I will try to use the notepad idea or copy idea--just as soon as I figure out how to do it!..

Copy and paste are pretty easy to use. You should have a little menu bar at the top of your screen with words like file and edit. You highlight (click and drag) over what you want to copy, and then go up to the edit part of the menu bar. Click and it will drop down a menu of options. Go to copy, and you've copied it! The computer saves it in a spot in the memory called the clipboard. It will keep it there until you copy something else or shut down your computer, so if you copy it, you'll have it "saved".

To paste it, once you've re=logged in, go to the box where you would normally type, and click once so that the cursor is blinking there, and then go up to the edit menu again, and this time click on paste. Viola!! You should have it!!

I hope that makes sense and explains it ok!
