Your opinion gents. I'm considering getting this coat, a cashmere wool mix, to wear over suits or even with jeans and a shirt. Will it suit a grey fedora?
I wear my gray hat, the one in my avatar, with an overcoat that is the same color as that one. Only mine is double-breasted; not that that effects the color mix. I think it is a good look.
Any gray hat will go with this jacket. And may I suggest that you would equally look sharp in a light, aka. DOVE gray hat with black band. Think of Barton MacLane, in Bullets or Ballots, 1936, Warner Bros.
That is the beauty of gray top coats, and gray hats. Seldom to they clash, and you can mix/match the colors.
Gray would look great. You might look into getting a nice, old-school charcoal/dark-gray-colored grosgrain band; I find it helps a gray hat distinguish itself a little more than straight black.

When I saw the coat at the beginning of this post, I had the same thought as Mr. H. The coat is a bit too short for a fedora, unless you're into the stingy-brim, tapered-crown fedora look of the late 50's. Wide-brim fedora with a longer coat; narrow-brim fedora with a car-coat length coat like the one you're considering.
I went for the slightly shorter jacket as I dont want to look in costume, rather a modern look bringing the fedora fifty years forward rather than turning the coat fifty years back. I do really like the long coat look but I think in the UK it would just look too costume. The brim of the grey fedora/trilby I have already changed to 2" so its a bit more stingy looking.
Rain Dog, follow this link, the coat is quite reasonable. A friend of mine has one and the quality is very good, compared to one someone else I know bought on the high street for just less than twice the price! The quality to me was poorer.
A couple of years ago, Brooks Brothers sold a longer topcoat. They offered three lengths in each size - regular, long, and extra-long. The extra-long version came to mid calf on me and I'm 6'1". It became my favorite topcoat. I looked through the Brooks Brothers website this morning, but the coat does not appear in this season's line-up (they may already be switching to their spring wardrobe).
