Thank you fellas for the info on Bahooka - I will definitely swing by. I can't beleive I've never heard of it before now. I like the very small Tonga Hut in N. Hollywood, good neighborhood bar.

Dr. Schocker,

Has it right! Picked that up on Ebay for $10.00 + it came with the original wooden fruit which tends to be missing on most of them.

A friend of mine collects Tikis. He has a great collection. I have one Tiki that my parents brought back from their trip to Hawaii in the 60's. Unfortunately it's little companion was smashed accidently by my mum cleaning.:(
I don't collect Tikis, but I can appreciate them.

Sounds good to me. Too bad its on the other side of the country from me. :eusa_doh:
A hukilau sounds like a perfect thing for the season. Now I have that music looping over and over on my computer. :p

There is Tiki in suburban Boston!

I was able to hunt down a Tiki place in Newton, MA called South Pacific. It's in a strip mall, so one might pass by if not for this very large sign, which sorely needs some TLC...

When you first walk in, it looks like a regular non-tiki place, but to the left is the tiki portion. There is a separate bar too, but we didn't go in there.

The food is very regular, but good Chinese if you stick to the standards. The waiters appear to be the ORIGINAL waiters, but the are very much on their game still and are dressed in these great coats. Food prices are cheap, & the drink menu is extensive old school, with the old school prices to match. I paid 5.95 for one, the name of which I have forgotten it was that good.

Once again - sorry for the huge photos!

The best Tiki place in the Boston area is Kowloon in Saugus. It is on one of the last remaining stretches of old US Rte 1 that still has a ton of 50s hotel and restaurant signs.

Well Kowloon is next then!

That whole little stretch of Rt 1 is fun for an afternoon drive! Lots of great old 50s signs - Hilltop Steakhouse, Carl's Sausage Kitchen, several old hotels, an old miniature gold and ice cream place, the Bel-Air Diner... I keep meaning to take a photo trip!

Thanks for posting about the South Pacific place! It looks great and I'll definitely have to check it out.
