Good Wear Modoc

When I started this thread it was about a style of jacket John makes. The moderators should delete every post that has nothing to do with this thread.
That would render this place useless. Threads do meander and more important to the majority of posters in this thread (of late) is the wait time for their jacket and their inability to get a solid answer from the maker. I think it's remained civil for the most part. I don't have any skin in it as I'm not waiting for GW but I see no problem with folks letting off steam about their frustrations and others questioning why they would bother in the first place.

lots of negativity in re certain topics as of late on FL

How about a "Good Wear Waiting Time" Thread. This could properly cover it.

@CBI, with all due respect, (and I'm really trying to say this in the most non-offensive manner that I can) I think that your personal feelings about me are maybe clouding your judgement.
I think you're reading too much into things, and seeing personal criticism where it didn't exist. You seem to be very sensitive and kind of angry a lot. I think you just need to relax. We were all getting along fine, and no one was fighting, even if they didn't agree with each other.
It's all good.

I can understand if John had to answer every last email and call that came in, perhaps he’d have no time to concentrate on making the jackets. But I also believe that after 2 or 3 years of waiting one should be able to expect some sort of confirmation or reply that we’re still in the cue and haven’t been forgotten.

Maybe manufacturers of high-demand/long wait time products and services should provide an order number and post current production numbers on their website. Just like a crowded NYC deli, you would get a number and can see the “now serving number...” Then you can decide if the wait is worth it and it would take some of the guesswork out of the process. If for example Jacket maker X is working on jacket number 100 and you have slot number 150 you know about where you are in the queue (allowing for unforeseen delays and emergency exigencies). It would alleviate some of the need for follow-up e-mails or phone calls from concerned customers too. And the production number system would be like a sort of count down that would add some excitement to the waiting. Just a thought.
John is a true artisan and his work is impeccable. I owned a Goodwear A-2 back in 2009 and when it was delivered it was a work of art.

Thx @Big J. The GW jacket was a gorgeous red/russet DuBow and it had superb workmanship. My tastes changed (as they often do) and I wanted a more plain “brown” russet A-2 that looked more utilitarian so I bought a Lost Worlds.

I think it was on VLJ sort of recently, Ken Calder, owner of Aero Leather Scotland talked about the increased wait times or manufacturing times for customers due too ........... emails and how much time customers spend these days emailing back and forth asking about their jackets, questions, changes, etc. I am not suggesting the guys on this thread are doing that, just that it is enough of an issue currently at Aero Leather Scotland for the owner to even mention it. Of course, this doesn't add years to an order but it doesn't help the wait times!

@thor's idea is brilliant, simple, and would be super effective is eliminating digital waste, time consumption and customer worry. Wouldn't be hard to implement either. A simple FileMaker Pro file or excel database would suffice. There would be a little bit of gardening but far less than answering a stacked inbox.

@CBI, that's really super news! Wow, you've got a hotline to all the jacket makers it seems. Gosh.
I'm glad to hear that Aero got over it's bad patches (thieving employee, mass theft) and are now so thriving that they don't even have time to make jackets for sake of all the sales enquiries they receive. It's probably best I try to help them out there by not ordering my next jacket from them. I wouldn't want to slow down anyone's jacket with my order details! ;)
LW got a waiting list problem, anyone know?

I've been on the waiting list for about a year now, and I'm completely okay with it.

I'll be honest, if you're buying from a company that's just one guy, and the wait time is more than a couple of months (let alone a few years), you're taking a gamble. A lot of stuff can happen that brings the company down, from personal life, sickness, losing interest and so on.

But the pictures of the stuff he was producing looked awesome, so I put the deposit down. Maybe I burned that money. Maybe I'll get an awesome jacket out of it a few years down the road. Either way, I knew what I was getting into it, and will be okay.

Yeah, I've made my peace with the money down - once I'd moved through a month and on to another pay cheque, it was a case of either I get this or I don't.
I can't say I'm not a little mystified at the apparent lack of any activity. I check the 'new jacket production' on the website every so often and there's been nothing on it since late 2017 - the last was a bunch of vintage pics in December, but no jackets since October. Has anyone around here received a jacket this year?
As kiyote says, we're in a Schrodinger's Jacket situation: I'm in an in-between place and I probably won't know if I'm getting my jacket before the year is out at earliest. Am I impatient? Two years-plus in, I don't think so, though I think a bit of update on where production stands would be good PR.
Has it stopped me buying other stuff? Nah, I'm currently awaiting the arrival of a 30s heart-print wabash denim jacket from China, so I can manage my habit as and when I want.

I mean absolutely no disrespect but I'm positively mystified by how anyone can willingly jump into a queue with no solid end date in site (and reports of wait times approaching 4 years). I'm only at 7 weeks on my second Aero since October and I'm already itching. This type of thing would drive me over the edge!
Quality, price, etc aside... man I'd go f'ing bonkers if this is something I really wanted. I'd love an Arcadia. Couldn't do it. That is precisely why I haven't let myself fixate or peruse the sale page section of the GW site too often. This is a bug my mental health can't afford (even more than my bank account, which can't either).
