Last Friday evening I was just looking at clothes on the internet, found that all official BR's stockists had just one orange lined MA-1 in stock, and it was in my size and on sale. So I bought it. Arrived the next day.
I can't understand waiting four years for clothes. If that had been laid out from the get-go, I can appreciate that some people would still be cool with that, and knowingly spin the wheel casino style on the odds that it could end up being 5 years, or the jacket might never come and the deposit would be lost. But it's an informed choice, so even though I would never do it, they have every right to do so.
However, if the four year wait wasn't crystal clear at the time of paying a deposit, or if wait time (however long it will be) isn't specified, then signing up for that is not 'fiscally prudent' shall we say, in my opinion.

^^^This is the rub of it all. There is estimated wait time given, 18-24 months and it hasn't been edited in at least 27 months since I put my order in. The salt was the lack of returned (2) emails and one phone message around the 20-24 month. John got in touch after the little dust up here but if you're reading this John, I would suggest updating the wait given to a realistic number.
Still looking forward to an Acadia.

I get the impression that John's schedule got knocked off course about three years ago when his mother fell ill, and he's still dealing with the aftermath of that. Last time I heard from him, back in October or November, I think that he was sorting out probate and a house sale.

I don't know all the details, but it sounds like he was the primary carer for his mother for the last eighteen months of her life. My father did the same thing for my mother, albeit for a longer period, and anything non-essential went out of the window. I think that he's still catching up with invoices for projects done in that period, and he has my brother working with him to help.

I'm hoping that mine will come through sometime this year, and it has been a four or five year wait so far.

Maybe he sorts out customers by type, based on email correspondence. For example there could be two types; high maintenance and low maintenance. If enough of the latter exist to always be busy, then why fret over the former?

There is certainly an argument for that. But I guess if you've got x number of people willing to drop £150 to get into the queue in the understanding that the waiting time is x years down the line, then it's hard to say no to that revenue stream. I seem to recall that the guy behind Aces High limits the number of new orders he gets on a yearly basis.

I would like to preface by saying that a John is a nice guy and he makes nice jackets.
Now, keeping that in mind, I think that a 4 year wait when the website says 2 or less is, to be generous, 'misleading' given that some people have been waiting 4 years. John should indeed be more up front about the wait time on his website.
I appreciate that John's business was interrupted by the loss of his mother. He doesn't have to explain that to anyone, it's private, but he should be more upfront about the wait time on his website.
It is my understanding that GW continues to launch new products, and design new products for DD to manufacture. Seems to me that with a 4 YEAR WAIT (!) there isn't a shortage of orders, and therefore hardly a need to expand waiting time by diverting hours from manufacturing to product development, nor is there a need to try and increase market share when you already have a 4 year waiting list.
But I think that John isn't much of a businessman, but rather a real jacket nerd, and that passion is driving his decisions. Is this a sustainable business model? I don't know. But I think that TOJ is where this is going.

Absolutely! Why turn away people willing to throw $$ at you with absolutely zero pressure to fulfill the orders in a timely manner!

Not trying to be a ass about it but honestly, you made a good point Sloan...what possible initiative would GW have for stopping a steady stream of deposits? I do hope people get their jackets and if GW truly is a one man band then the wait can only grow...all good things wear comes to those who wait.

“To be or not to be, that is the question.”

I'm currently favouring a Monarch A2, though I've switched back and forth between it and a Dubow around 20 times (so far). I do think when it comes to my place in the GW queue, it's somewhere where rationality and logic aren't readily found. I'm comfortable with this!

Whilst we are talking about rationality and logic, I have a confession to make...
Since i assumed the GW would probably not be ready anytime soon, i might have placed an order for a Himel!

It seemed the most logical thing to do at the time....
Which one are you getting?
