Being a member of the class yearbook comitte -actually the founder, chairman and sole member- I was looking for inspiration for my little piece of (evil) work and found this:

Here's a gallery of yearbook senior pictures from 1920 to 2003 from Hornell High in... I have no idea where. Needless to say I've only spied the pages from 1920 to 1946.

I actually pick these up whenever I see them for cheap enough at estate sales or flea markets. It's a great resource for what people really wore, and what the different "types" wore. You can pick out who was the teacher everyone was in love with, who were the "cool" kids, the "artistic" types, the "sporty" types... and it's a spectacular resource for hairstyles!

What a fantastic site! Thank you so much for sharing. It's amazing to see the clothes, the hair, the comments. It's funny how you can just tell who are the outgoing ones and who are the shy types just from the photos.

I have my grandmother's yearbooks from 1926-1930--a great peek into small town America. My grandmother and her best friend, Aggie Oleson, are standing/sitting next to each other in every club picture--it's very sweet. I'll try to scan a few pictures sometime. It's very true that you can pick out the "types" even then. I drool over some of the eyeglasses and dresses too.

You too? I graduated from high school in 1966, and it was a bit of a shock to find one of my old yearbooks at a flea market outside my home town.

It made me wonder, though, how it had found its way there. Had its original owner (no name inside) died? Tossed it away? Lost it? I'll never know.

The one I found DID have a name, but it wasn't one I recognized.[huh]

What REALLY bothered me was it was a gift from Mother to daughter....and some how it ended up in the antique store.

Antique stores and flea markets are the gaveyards of life's memories.

What once was loved, cherished and valued, is now sold to the highest bidder!

That's one way to look at them, yes.lol

Personally, I find them as locations that memories can be rescued and made useful again....creating yet NEW memories for new owners. We use everything we buy.

Yes,...that is another way to look at it. We too use everything we purchase,...I bought my wife a new/old 1930s kitchen table with chairs for her birthday. Also picked up a set of deco end tables for her at the same place. Early last weekend I found a Deco blue mirror topped coffee table for us too,....I really enjoy transforming our home and turning back the clock as much as possible.

To get back to yearbooks, I picked up three last weekend. 1933,34, 39 and 43. One was the 1939 Villanova yearbook when it was still an all men's school,...really cool to see clothing, hairstyles, etc. Great research material!!
