Going Atomic With Dalton

Found this on Shopgoodwilldotcom, listed in the Women's clothing.

Here's the insides...




The union label is the earlier one, so could be as late as the mid forties, but it just seems to have.a thirties vibe. The felt is so thin and light at 105g,that it can be moved with a breath. The brim is 2 3/8"and the crown 5 3/4". The hat is odd in that while the rest of it looks like a Homburg, the brim is bound evenly like a fedora. It also has a sweat barrier unlike the onionskin ones I have seen on later hats. It is a white fabric, slick on one side.



II was hoping it would be on the larger side of the size, but alas, is is closer to a size 7. It will be up for trade.

Tbh, I'm not sure this one would work for you. When I said it was on the smaller side of 7 1/8, I wasn't kidding. Closer to a 7, and it doesn't feel like it wants to stretch at all. With that thin felt showing every little deformation (and the dreaded sweatband line... ) plus the extra layer of stuff in the sweat construction I think it is probably not getting any bigger. Believe me, the temptation to try was hard to resist, but after having stretched several 7 1/8 tagged hats with varying degrees of sucess I decided this one was best left alone.

It is actually just a bit darker grey in person than in the pics, and the brim is not stiff at all. Just the tension from the binding to give it some structure. I thought at first it might have been a previous owner curling the brim on a fedora, but then decided it was too well done not to be intentional. I vaguely remember reading about a Hom-dora style the was popular for a hot minute in the mid thirties that was like a hommie that you snapped the brim down but I can't remember if it was bound like this.
About the felt...when I steamed this one up with th the Jiffy to get some of the dimples out for pics, it gave the felt back enough body that now you have to blow kinda hard to dent it, but you can still move the felt. So while you can' t blow in a crease anymore, I bet you could tickle one in with a feather!

I'd certainly wear it that way!
It is a bit more curled at the edge than the two upbrims I have, one from the 19-teens, one from the twenties.

Thanks to John (@moehawk ) this fabulous Dalton landed on these northern shores. Rest assured: it is not alone.
Dalton homburg/camber style hat in a natural colour they do so well and depending on the light varies between light grey to sand. Very soft felt which creases wonderfully. Weighs just over 100 grams. Love it.

A Dalton I picked up about 2 months ago. It’s an oldie. So old that I don’t know if it’s of the same Dalton brand in this thread, but maybe one of y’all can let us know.
I did a bit of digging but only came up with one shred of info under one rock.
I wouldn’t make a very good sleuth.
It’s a size 7 3/8, but has shrunk closer to a big 7 1/8.
