I'm kinda guessing on a lot of it, just by the ones I have and have seen. The reorder tag and the oilskin tip still make it sound older to me. We'll just have to find more examples, no?

Jim, I totally agree that we need to find more examples. Let me know when you figure out how we're going to to do that.

More Daltons are certainly on my list. For research, of course. Not for any kind of obsession or anything like that...

My first Dalton!
Found this on eBay, and was surprised King Jim of Daltonia (Frunobulaxus Rex to all you scholarly types) didn't get to it first. Must have been busy conjuring Demons (or playing with ponies :) )
Here's pics. Thank goodness Tapatalk is back up.

This lighting shows that faint lettering below the logo a little better.

Crown 5 1/2" open, brim 2 5/8". 130g. Felt has a smooth finish, and can best be described as DENSE. Yes, capped on purpose for emphasis. It has considerable body without being western-stiff, and with the overwelt (I think it's felted, can't feel any stitching) it has quite the "pop" when the brim is snapped down. The only bumer is that there is thread rot on the sweat, when I was applying Lexol to the band a couple of inches of stitching betwixt leather and reed became dust. I'm trying some Fabri-Tac adhesive to see if I can stop the thing from seperating further.
Dang...the hat bug might be back...
That is a fantastic find, John. Superb looking hat with a nice forties feel to it. Good to have you back, man!

Well, I've been out looking for them everywhere I can think of!

But of course! This is all merely an academic exercise. For science!

I took a flyer on a cheap hat on eBay just because it was Roos Bros labeled. All the hats I’ve seen that were sold by them were really good hats. Got the hat yesterday and it was a bit of a mess. It was covered in dust and the sweat band had been resewn through the felt so you could see the stitches at the bottom of the ribbon.
The payoff was finding the Dalton size tag. More pics when it’s clean and has a new sweat.

Good get, Richard! I watched that one for a while, too. Almost went for it. Glad it's in your hands.

I snagged this last night. I've never seen a Dalton in person - only on the lounge. So it's my first Dalton and my first long hair. Like others, I haven't been able to find any information on the Dalton company. Based on what I've read in this thread I'm thinking 40/50s timeframe? I will post detailed pictures when it arrives. The size is supposed to be between a 7 1/8 to 7 1/4.

That's a nice one. Not seen a Dalton long hair before. Looking forward to seeing the guys when you get it.

All we really know about Dalton is on the first page or so of this thread. They sold the rights to the name in 1953.

What a great hat Bill. It’s just vibrant in those pics. Looks like a cross between a Disney and a Angora Borsa!!
That’s some hat!!

Finally getting around to taking pictures of recent acquisitions. This is the long hair Dalton from the 40s - I think. Any help on dating would be greatly appreciated. It has the "GENUINE BEAVER" on the liner. I'm hoping that mean 100% beaver?

Crown: 5 3/4" open, 4 3/4" as bashed
Brim: 2 3/4" with over welt
Ribbon: 1 3/4" (I would call it burgundy colored)

I submit my vintage Dalton fedora for membership in the Atomic with Dalton Club.

i-DWG7Ckk-M.jpg

This hat is an excellent fedora purchased from the Hatton Hat shop for $13.50.

i-TNd59Vb-M.jpg

It is a cool, very light white-gray hued felt that is very malleable. Bigger 2 7/8" brim and a taller crown give the hat some dimensions. All in all a terrific fedora.

i-LjGp8ps-M.jpg

The brim binding adds the appearance of thickness by the dimensions (Width of ribbon and size of ribbon) and the process used to attach the binding. It provides an eye catching outcome.

I love a mystery and this felt is no exception. It is labeled "Mystery Felt - Weather Tested."
