Well here she is! She arrived this morning and I am happy to add her to my collection, although she is only my second hat. She is a Dalton Homburg and turned out to be in incredible condition.

My first Dalton!
Found this on eBay, and was surprised King Jim of Daltonia (Frunobulaxus Rex to all you scholarly types) didn't get to it first. Must have been busy conjuring Demons (or playing with ponies :) )
Here's pics. Thank goodness Tapatalk is back up.

Crown 5 1/2" open, brim 2 5/8". 130g. Felt has a smooth finish, and can best be described as DENSE. Yes, capped on purpose for emphasis. It has considerable body without being western-stiff, and with the overwelt (I think it's felted, can't feel any stitching) it has quite the "pop" when the brim is snapped down. The only bumer is that there is thread rot on the sweat, when I was applying Lexol to the band a couple of inches of stitching betwixt leather and reed became dust. I'm trying some Fabri-Tac adhesive to see if I can stop the thing from seperating further.
Dang...the hat bug might be back...

That's a great one, moe. Love the colors. I can already hear Jim crying as if the Reds just lost another game. Oh wait, they did, right? That edge sure reminds me of the Stetson Selv-Edge, such as the one on my 40's 3X.
Thanks Bama!
I may have stolen the King's crown... :)
Selv-Edge was Stetson's original name for the Mode Edge, wasn't it? Not the glued overwelts of the later years.

Good get, John! I clean missed that one, congratulations on the pick up. An older liner (I think), with the World's Finest designation, unreeded sweat - that's probably pre-war. Also, I don't think we've seen that re-order tag before, not to mention the Beaver designation.

That's a top quality Dalton. Yes, I'm envious, but now you have an idea why I am a fan.

Way to make a comeback John! I take Jim's evaluation of the age as gospel, he is the King. I really love that color and shape. You came out smelling like a rose on this one.

Great find Moe. Great color and ribbon and I don't think any of the others we've seen state that they are beaver.

Ah, I didn't know that the glued ones were that early. Guess I have to pay better attention.
And, did you notice I left the losing baseball team comment alone? Giants fan here... :(

I was too keyed in on the hat to be remember to be offended by the Reds comment.

Thanks for reminding me. I wouldn't want to miss being mad at Greg! [emoji35]

Easy to understand what the fuss is about when you have one in hand, that's for sure!
The sweat is reeded, if that makes a difference in your date estimate. The store tag with the price of $15 for a beaver hat does make me think it has some age to it. Can't make out the rest of that tag though.
Gotta get more! :D

What a find! The thread rot notwithstanding, it is in great condition!

Thanks Brent!
The felt is in beautiful shape, as is the liner.
Let's hope the rot is confined to the thread and that the leather doesn't go all bacon-y on me after the first time I sweat it up...

I just edited the post to reflect that it has an onionskin liner tip protector. Don't know about everyone else, but to my bad eyes it's not obvious in the pics. That might be something to help date it.

I'm kinda guessing on a lot of it, just by the ones I have and have seen. The reorder tag and the oilskin tip still make it sound older to me. We'll just have to find more examples, no?
