Yesterday, I tried perm rods and my hair came out GREAT, for the 5 hours between when it dried and when I went to bed. This morning, most of my hair looks ok, but the side I sleep on is flat. My hair dried in about 7hrs, so in the future, I'll wash my hair at night. BUT, I don't want to have to do that every night. How do I revive the curl in the morning? I've seen many ladies say they get more than one day from a set. How do you keep it looking good?

last night I managed to successfully get an extra day by pinning the long bits back up, then putting on a hairnet and a silk scarf to sleep in

Absolutely! You have to wrap it up if you want to keep most of the curl.

Look for a "sleep cap" in the hair notions section of your favorite discount store -- it's basically a traditional boudoir cap made of satin. Pin your waves up, slip the cap on, and when you brush out the next morning you should be fine.

For extra protection, especially if you pincurl, look for a "wave net" and wear this under the sleep cap. This is basically a stouter and more durable version of a hairnet -- they're harder to find now than they used to be, but you should be able to scare up a pack of them at Sally's.

Yes, you can find the wave nets at Sally's I've recently picked up a few.

The only way I can get my set to last a week and look good, Is I re-roll it, or pincurl it back up at night, & add the net/scarf.

The longest, I went 10 days on one set.:D But I re-rolled/pincurled every night.

I have to set it all over again! I wet it slightly just by running damp fingers through each section to reactivate the setting lotion and roll as required. I then put a thin heavy duty hair net, as usual, to keep everything in place. That's if I want exactly the same hairstyle as the day before. If I want a wavy style then I have gotten away with wearing a lightweight hair net overnight on unbrushed hair (this is important - if I brushed it would fall out and be straight), and gently brushing out with a cushion brush in the morning. The hair net/caps are vital in keeping your set from being tossed around on your pillow.

I'm noticing a pattern with my hair, the first set on clean hair is rubbish but the following days, after repinning and wetting down at night, it comes out wonderfully. I think my just washed hair is just too slippery as its poker straight.

On the rare instance I have a limp curl, the worst thing EVER is the curling iron. It always ends up worse than if I had never touched it. It falls out before I even leave the bathroom. In fact, curling iron curls don't last for me unless I am pinning them.

For me, the best way for a lasting set has been:

A pincurl set that I set wet and slept on to begin with (for the longest lasting sets). I swear by pincurls and haven't tried rollers in a long time.

Every night I roll it back up and pin it. I mist it with a little Tresemme curl activator.

I can get about 3 days before the scalp starts needing a rinse.

Of course, I am always looking for the secret of a weekly set!

I experience this sometimes too. My hair is also poker straight and slippery so things like rolls are basically impossible to do on clean hair. Dirty hair has always been recommended for up-dos and such as it holds styles slightly better.

I am set-less because the hubby hates hates hates the look of it. So, I don't do it because I like him liking me :) Alas, I cannot help!

Short Clara, you are not alone. My husband doesn't actually say that he hates it, but I have noticed that when I wear sets to bed, there is no getting lucky for me.[huh] lol
Honestly, I don't think he really cares about my hair that much, except that now he likes it long. HA HA.. I have changed my hair so much and so often, it has no effect anymore. Since that realization/observation, I decided it better to wear them when he is gone. ;)

My husband doesn't mind and we usually get a good laugh out of it. He knows when I wear a set to bed that I will look fabulous the next day and he appreciates the effort I make.

Yeah, same here!

Here's another question, ladies: what do you do about working out? Right now, it's ok, because it's so cold that I don't sweat much during my morning runs, but once it gets warm, that will be an issue. Not so much, the falling of the curl, but the yucky sweaty, smelly hair.
