Austrian young man with hat (1928). I found this photo a few years ago. I purchased the photo because of the interesting hat crease.

Great photo Steve with a very interesting looking hat both brim and crease wise. Be interesting to know what the colour of hat and ribbon were, not to mention the maker. 1928 could definitely be correct, but I believe you could easily place that style anywhere within the decade or so up to 1928. Does it state the date on the back of the photo, or was that how it was presented by the seller?

Steve, Unfortunately I can't remember. I will have to see if I can find the photo.

No worries, Steve. The style is in the decade of the 20s, so 1928 is a good bet. Wouldn't be surprised though if it was earlier in that decade.

Steve pointed me in the direction of this 1930's Mayser velour in Blue with Silver ribbon.

More to come once it arrives from Bannewitz

Garrett, Super! I very happy you got this one. It's near impossible to find pre WWII Mayser Soft Felts and this is such a unique Velour. I am really looking forward to seeing better photos. I also think there is a chance it will fit (maybe a slight tweak) because of the softness of the Velour.

Fraenkel Wien, Celluloid Advert Card by Prager & Lojda Berlin S.W., 9 cm x 6 cm, possibly 1920s. I purchased a bunch of interesting pre WWII German and Austrian advertising pieces from a seller out of Lativa. This is the only one from Fraenkel Wien but it's fantastic. I would like to thank Stefan for the tip.

That is super, Steve and so iconic of the time frame. Can't possibly be anything other than 1920s or very early 30s at a push.

This WWII era Karl Misik (Kami) arrived today. I bought it off Alan, who originally got it via Steve's Czech haul back in 2015.

It has a very soft, grey heather felt which, by the feel of it, suggests some wool content.

It fits rather nicely and is very malleable.

Steve has more info about Kami on his germanaustrianhats website.

In my opinion, it looks good with the brim up or snapped down. It also has the iconic look of a hat from that period of European history.

I particularly like the original bow style.

Steve, Great to see the Karl Misik (Kami)! It's hard to describe the Wool felt. I really like the form + look. Also the bow design. I definiely enjoy wearing mine. This was a one of kind NOS find. I haven't haven't come across any other Karl Misik (Kami) Hats so definitely rare.

Thanks Steve. I'm glad you unearthed it and that it has found its way to me via Alan. It is indeed an enjoyable hat to wear.
