German & Austrian Hutmachers

Rehfus Hutfabrikanten / & Cie. "Olympia Extra Quality", Size French Point 5 1/2, Crown Open 5 1/2 inches, Brim 2 3/8 inches probably mid to later 1950s. I don't come across many Rehfus hats so was very happy to find this one. The felt is medium weight with a smooth finish and a very smooth hand. Rehfus & Cie / Hutfabrikanten is from the Kehl am Rhein, Germany which is directly across from Strasbourg / Strassburg so probably the reason for using French Point Sizing which is unusual (maybe the only one post WWI) for German Hat Companies.

Manfred, congrats on two lovely finds. I like the look of the Mayser especially. Looks to be quite a thick felt.

Two incredible finds Manfred. What era is that Mayser from? Is it 1970s, I can't imagine an American hat looking this good from that era.

Sorry I am late Mike. Thank you very much. I think it’s younger. The sweatband with vents looks modern also the sweatband. Maybe 80s 90s, but you are right it’s a splendid hat!

How did this thread end up so low? It deserves a better place. Here's an interesting piece I picked up this week. Atlantis velour in black. Raw edge brim at 6cm and crown 10cm at the pinch. The model is actually "Essen" according to the label and the Atlantis name refers to the quality. Chose this one over a few other velours/longhair finished hats (among them a Lembert) because I liked the shape and the condition of this one best. It is an early one by the looks of it, but no clue as to who the maker was.

Another addition to the flock. More traditional this time. P&C Habig Special Qualität in black. Bound brim at 5,5cm and crown at 10,5cm. Bought this one because I liked the soft felt very much and the crown shape is very nice. When I brushed and steamed it this shape more or less formed by itself. I like it; something different. Habig hats are supposed to have the date on the label, but I can't find it on this one. The only number that could be something of a date is the number 66. Could very well be 1966.

Very nice looking felt. The old style typewriter script on the mfg. label might be a clue in itself.
