Also, found this odd little hat on Ebay as well. It appears to be German / Austrian but made by Resistol. In like new condtion, fits me well, and has a fine velvety finish. Henry B Klein? Guess that could be german? I think Resistol worked with some German hatmakers back in the 50's / 60's but not sure about this one. US made or German made? Anyone have any ideas on this one?

Wegener had the Resistol license but I think this one is American. It's highly likely Resistol sourced the hat. Here is a Wegener licensed Resistol.

Thanks for the update. Interesting reading. Funny that Resistol would make that style hat for the US market, doubt very many would've been made. No matter, I like it!!! I took those photos right out of the box, the feather was a bit brittle and beginning to loose pieces and stems so that is the debris that is showing on the hat brim in the photo :)

Alpine hats like the one you posted were sold by American hat companies. Some were made by the American hat companies and some were sourced (felt hood, capeline, semi finished hat, finished hat).

Carl Jacob Halle a/S., measures 57cm, probably WWI era maybe later. No company mark but probably made by one of the hat companies in Guben or Luckenwalde. Currently I can't make out the symbol above Carl Jacob on the liner. It has a over welt brim with a slightly offset smaller scale bow and a unique shinny lime green liner. The Velour is in very good condition and has a very nice glossy finish and fine hand.

Picked up a few hats this saturday. Two of them homburgs. Had to leave a few what could have been nice finds behind as well (a few pre-war Hückel-hat, that were just to bad a shape). Anyway. Wegener homburg in grey, size 56. Later model, probably seventies. More taper and rounded form to the 10,5 cm crown and a shorter brim (5,5cm). While I do have nicer formed homburgs, I liked the colour combination of this one.

Great find, Steve and in remarkable condition for its age. I have seen a hat with a similar liner on occasion, but that one was completely toast.

Another one of the saturday pick-up. Hückel (Welheim production) in grey (Mercur grau on the inside sweatband) in a size 57. Made for Globus. There were several Hückel homburg hats in the vintage store I got this one from and I believe three of them were pre-war. All of them in black and too damaged or soiled to bring along unfortunately. This one is nice though. Brim at 5cm and crown at 10cm at the pinch. Liner is still stitched in, so my guess would be early to mid-sixties.

According to his own statement, my grandfather's first post-war hat - according to photos around 1950 (GDR):
"Leicht & Elegant" (light & elegant) - "Prima Haarhut" (great hair hat) - Model "Magnet" - Colour "reh" (roe deer)
The stamp on the leather consists of a number-letter code (difficult to read)
Sorry again for the bad quality!

Matt, That is a great looking hat! It looks like it's in new condition. That is great you have a hat from your grandfather. I am thinking VHG might be VEB Vereinigte Hutwerke Guben. What is the coating (might be the photo) on the inside of the sweatband?

Thank you for your kind words, Steve! Yes, I like the "old men's" memorabilia. The grandfather in question will soon be 93 years old...

And also thanks for your hint: I didn't pay much attention to the VHG, but it's very possible!
Yes, it's nearly mint condition - just a little discoloration of the lining.
There is no application on the inside of the sweatband. This is quite inferior leather, which has been left a little rough on the inside.
The "dots" are in my opinion artificially produced small "scars". But I'll take another look.

And the green one: My great-grandfather wasn't in a "rifle club", but he was a hunter. I still have a Gamsbart, which belongs to the hat.

Matt, Again super that you have these great family hats that you can share with us. The inside of sweatband might be the result of the process that created the outside texture of the sweatband.
