J. Hückel ´s Söhne "Standard" "Crystal Velour", French Point Size 5 1/2, Brim 2 1/4 inches, Crown Open 6 inches probably 1930s. The overall condition of the hat is near mint condition. The "Crystal Velour" condition, color (light shade of green), finish and hand are fantastic. I think once I can photograph it in natural light the color and finish will better represented. This is definitely one of my better finds in a while.

An example of an early JHS Hat Hanging Cord. Also a unique sweatband. The leather color, finish and hand are fantastic.

That one is fantastic, Steve. Great proportions and shape and the felt still looks pristine. Congrats!

Stefan, Thank you. I was pleasantly surprised by the great condition. As I mentioned it should photograph better in natural light. Super find on your part. J. Heinr. ITA are a difficult find and this one is fantastic.

Kohlndorfer Miesbach "Erko" possibly 1920s. Today I discovered that "Erko" was a trademark for Ernst Kohlndorfer Miesbach / Oberbayren (Germany) Velour Hutfabrik. I found this hat in 2011 so almost 7 years later I solved the mystery.

It's a great hat, made by a specialist manufacturer and it shows. Must be very satisfying to solve these little puzzles.

I picked up a bowler hat yesterday in a garagesale for 10 euro. Aquila Beste deutsche Marke on the sweatband. The sweat also mention "Stammhaus Guben" (right side) and SHG (left side). Certainly German make therefore and pre-war. Interesting piece and very comfy. But alas what I thought was dirt and dust appeared to be moth damage. So it bears battle scars on the back of the crown and the underside of the brim. For that price who's complaining?

How come I never find hats like that at garage sales? Were there also Rembrandts for 10 euro?

Steve, thanks! It was one of the possibilities I considered, but the tower logo and the "stammhaus" make it highly likely. Quite cool actually.
Stefan, I also found this B.G.H. advertisement in D.H.Z. (10/1/1919) . The B.G.H. marks in the lower left and right corners show the same letter configuration. The mark on the right is the same mark. This proves that your S.H.G. was made by B.G.H..

That's fantastic, Steve. No doubt about it in my mind that it's the same. What I thought was an 'S' is intended as a 'B' that didn't come out quite right. Very cool.

Stefan, Thanks! B.G.H. was a large company (at the time the largest in Germany) that made both Wool and Fur Felt Hats and Stumps.

Sorry I was wrong the initials are B.H.G. on your hat too so the same as in the advertisement.

Now that it’s confirmed German, I’ll post this over here. Not much is known about Windsor it seems, but popular theory says this could be made by Mayser. The felt is really soft and fairly light. I am strongly enamored with it.

Thank you for posting it here. I was thinking it might be Mayser but now I tend to think not. As I mentioned the trademark could have been owned by a wholesaler / distributor. I haven't been able to find a trademark link to either (German hat company or wholesaler / distributor). Does it have a paper label?

Josef Pichler & Söhne Graz, 56cm, possibly later 1930s early 1940s (see below). The hat is in NOS condition but unfortunately the brim was trimmed down to 2 inches. It came with the 1930s light green JHS "Standard Crystal Velour" I posted last week and was sold by the same store Rudolf Hanus Wien so it could be from a similar time period. The overall quality of this hat is high and the felt is fantastic (color, finish, hand). Josef Pichler was a brother of the more well known Anton Pichler.

Oops, just saw this. I’m currently in the states for a visit. I’ll post a pic of the label when I’m back in Germany. Thanks for the clarification.
