Picked up this Hückel fedora in grey. I really liked the blue tone the grey felt has. It was very dirty and needed a naphta bath and the ribbon was beyond saving, so I changed that. The more ribbons I do, the more I admire the work of the women who did that originally. It's a lot harder than you'd think and they don't get enough credit for it.
Size 58 with the bound brim at 5cm and the crown at 10cm at the center dent. Seems to have a chamois finish, but can't be sure, because the plastic covering of the liner was all but gone. I took out the remnants of that.

That blue tone on the grey is quite unique, Stefan. Nice job on the ribbon, too. Very stylish. Congrats

I love that gray-blue and copper color combo Stefan.

Not German or Austrian, but Swiss - made by Eichenberger & Cie, sold by Bischofberger:

I bought this at a small antique shop about 12 years ago in the USA. Eichenberger & Cie sold at a souvenir shop run by the Zryd family just across the street from the hotel in Interlaken. Color is "bottle" perhaps meaning the dark green glass used in wine bottles. Or not.

Nice Trachtenhut. My guess would be later 1960s into the 1970s. Sporthaus Zryd is the name of shop in Interlaken, Switzerland that sold the hat. Eichenberger & Cie. is the hat factory in Goldbach, Bern Switzerland that made the hat. They are listed in the 1963 Kelly's Directory (see below) but I have no other information at this time.

Here is a really nice Soft Felt Dress Hat from Eichenberger & Cie. (from an earlier time period).

It's been a while. Quite some great finds gents. Two oldies from me.

Heinrich Balke, Bremen View attachment 349644 View attachment 349645 View attachment 349646 View attachment 349647 View attachment 349648 View attachment 349649 View attachment 349650 View attachment 349651 View attachment 349652 View attachment 349653
Some damage on the sweatband but the felt is in great condition. Also, this is a wool hat, and in a special finish. Not something we see that often, I think.
Panos, Amazing find! It's an old one. Could be very early 1900s. I have a couple Heinrich Balke, Bremen. There were Wool Soft Felts with Specialty Finishes including Velour.

And this is the other one it came with.

JHS. This one is fur felt but I'll let the pics do the talking View attachment 349654 View attachment 349655 View attachment 349656 View attachment 349657 View attachment 349658 View attachment 349659 View attachment 349660 View attachment 349661 View attachment 349662 View attachment 349663
Marked 58 but luckily wears somewhat smaller
Panos, Fantastic + rare find! It's definitely WWI era or a bit older. It's rare to come across a JHS Soft Felt from this time period. Mostly only Stiff Felts survived and they are also rare finds.

Steve thank you! They probably belonged to the same person, since they came together and sized similarly. And thanks to your site I knew what HBB meant :) I am yet to see a wool felt in velour finish in person though, the closest I have is the French one I posted recently.

J. Hückel´s Söhne "Extra" "Leicht", French Point 5 1/2, 110 grams, possibly late 1920s. The Black Felt has a Smooth Finish and is light weight and very pliable. The the Snap Brim with Binding is almost 3 inches in width. Condition is very good with all original components including the Crown Patch.

Glad these ones finally arrived. Fantastic hat and besides some lost stitches seems unworn!
Echter Rockel Velour, No Paper Label, measures ~ 58 cm, possibly late 1920s. The the Gray Velour is very pliable with a great amount of gloss. The Crown is ~ 6 inches Open with a ~ 2 1/2 inch Brim. The black Bat Wing like Bow is really fantastic.
