Haven't seen one like this before and the size was uncertain. Took a chance on it and it worked out.
Wegener Carrera in Biber quality, colour is called Kastell. Zize 56 with the overwelt brim with a double row of stitches at 6cm and crown at 10cm at the front. Likely some beaver content to the felt because of the quality name and a very nice hand to it at least. Quite a pronounced brim curve in the back, while the front is quite flat.
Paul Orlob of Düsseldorf came from a line of furriers, of which there were traditionally quite a few in that city.

Stefan, Very sharp looking! I have a "Carrera" (from Manfred) but I like how this one is creased. Great photo too. Some nice hats in the background.

Hope this one belongs in this thread - managed one last purchase before end of the year. Currently still making its way to me, but looks to be a circa 30s velour by a smaller maker.

Wayne, Sorry for the late reply. I am on travel. Great find! The Velour looks really fantastic. I am fairly certain that is not the maker. Hopefully there is a paper label that reveals more. Where was the seller located? My guess is that it came from a Novy Jicin company or possibly Janyska & Cie. which is close by to Novy Jicin.

I just remembered that I have stamp dies with this type of English Crest that came from the Novy Jicin Czechoslovakia (Austria up to WWI) area.

Here are some B.B. examples.

Here some A. Peschel N. examples.

Here is a A. Peschel N. Velour (belongs to Alan) made for Oviatts Los Angles. The only mention of A. Peschel N. is on the paper label.

Here is an example that was from one of the Novy Jicin area hat companies.

Fantastic information Steve - always appreciate your encyclopedic knowledge of German/Austrian makers. Wishing you a wonderful Christmas and a restive holiday season.

S. J. Fraenkel Wien, "Arola", 58 cm possibly late 1950s. This is my first S. J. Fraenkel Wien Homburg Hat find in my size range. The felt is of a heavier weight but still dry creases and has a soft hand. The components and workmanship are of excellent quality. This Homburg Hat was made specially for Thom. Janout Linz Hat Sales K.G.. Back in 2018 I fond a catalog from Thom. Janout, Hat Manufacturer Upper Austria, Linz, Austria (1924) so they stopped producing hats possibly after WWII.

The Steinhard & Co. Arrived. Wonderful felt, turned out to be a lovely rich brown. Looking at the tag, the AP makes me think Anton Peschel is the maker - though slightly different font than an late teens/twenties A. Peschel tag I've seen. Guess it to be 30s or so.

Sadly, turns out it is an American 7 rarther than a UK 7 as I was hoping for. Atleast it's off to friend now.

Great hat, Wayne, and glad to hear, it arrived savely.
The interior with lining and sweat looks as fantastic as the felt.
A shame it's too small - I think you would have worn it with grace!

Here is one of my first hats ever received - at the time "on the road" in later periods:
It is unfortunately very badly damaged (lining missing, moth bites, sweat stains),
but I used to wear it as it is, so I'll show it here after all...

Brüder Böhm Wien - quite stiff felt in gray with purple impact - maybe 60s?
But some of you will like the "art work" of the ribbon...

Percy Donald "Antilope" "Iller", 56 cm possibly mid 1950s. The paper label in the is for whole-seller Valentin Schick so probably sourced (see photo below). The Iller river flows into Ulm so Mayser might be the source. It was common to see fanciful British brand names used in West Germany during this time period. The Felt has a great Chamois finish and is very pliable so easily dry creases. Also has a really nice form and thinner ribbon bow design. This is the 7th and final hat of my recent find.

Valentin Schick Mannheim

29940245955_061ce2bb59_h.jpg

I just noticed the similarities with my hat that I posted years ago:
Same label of Schick as Steve's hat and certainly same period.
But different pseudo-British "manufacturer" - J. Harris & Co.
It's really funny from my point of view that German manufacturers did this regularly.

Matt, Super find! The liner color is really fantastic! Stiff Felts were blocked under high pressure so impossible to fix dents that have damaged the felt. You can try hitting with a extreme amount of steam and see how it responds. From the photos it doesn't look bad so I am sure that will help some. Highly possible it's from the 1930s maybe late 1920s. What is the location name on the liner? I can't make out the first part ?"Ambernach"?.

@Steve:
I tried to handle the Hückel Elastic with a lot of steam, but you were right:
There is no chance of improving the condition of stiff felts by doing this - but I don't quibble with it.

My experience: steam has led to the fact that the hairs of the felt "stood up" at the bends,
making it visually "worse". So in those places the stiff one reacts like the soft felts
(which is why we do this with them). I smoothed it out again with more steam and brushing,
but the difference from before is minimal, which is why I don't think it's worth the effort.

My tip (like that of many here): some steam and brushing to clean the surface,
and otherwise live with the "scars" of the old hats - they show their character.

Wayne, Yes it's Anton Peschel Neutitschein. I am very sorry about the size because it's a rare find and a real beauty. I think it might be early 1930s possibly a bit older.

By the way a "Superbum" is a Succulent plant from Mexico.

Matt, Is the liner stitched in? The Böhm family gain control of the Wien factory post WWII and in the late 1950s Ebreichsdorfer Filzhutfabrik took control of the brand.

Matt, Thank you posting it again. It could have been made by Mayer or Mayser Milz for Valentin Schick. It's common to see the use of English and American branding in the 1950s.

Matt, Yes once this type of damage occurs it's impossible to repair. Soft dents will pop out but once creasing occurs it's not possible. Heavy weight Wool Stiff Felts held up better but are on the rougher side.
