Gottfried Kiniger

This one is by Gottfried Kiniger of Sillian, Austria (near the Italian Alpine boarder). He makes he is own felt (see video clip a ways back) so a bit out of the ordinary. I visited his shop on a recent trip through Austria and I picked up this natural velour hat. It has some Seal Velour qualities and came with as nice open crown block. The sweat, ribbon and liner quality aren't the best but they are functional. My guess is Gottfried and his wife are over 80 years old.

Josef Mauerer Hutfabrik Wien

I picked up this new old stock Josef Mauerer Hutfabrik Wien long hair Alpen at hat store in Lienz, Austria. I am not aware of Josef Mauerer and couldn't find anything online. The hat is very well made and has some very nice long hair felt. I am thinking early to mid 1960s.

Dobesch Wien Homburg

I was excited to receive this Dobesch Wien Homburg but it turned out to be a size 56cm instead of a 59cm.

This is the first Dobesch I have come across so rare. I am thinking late 50s early 60s.

Same seller and again a 56cm instead of a 59cm. These Maysers are hard to come by and this one is in very good condition. The brim is just over two inches with very nice felt. I am thinking late 50s early 60s. If anyone is interested in it please send me a PM.

Mützen

Back on page 2(I think) of this thread, a couple of years ago,
there was some mützen talk. Bergmützen, etc...

I bought one of these mützen/caps(read on) but may not have offered any opinion or information about it. I bought it online and here's a link to it(or a similar one- it's a couple of years ago now)-

It is a black(the one in the link is navy blue)bergmütze style, with a buckle fastening at the front, rather than buttons- reminiscent of pre-WW2 civilian and German Boy Scout movements...
Nice wool cap but a little deceptive, is that it is not designed for the ear flaps to come completely down- they down unfold fully, there is a not a full fold there. The flap portion just pulls down over the ears, without unfastening the front. The sweatband on mine is leather, nice satin lining.
The binding on the front of the bill/visor is vinyl, or similar, not leather.
If I had known about the ear flap situation, I may have bought a size larger,
in order to get my wars covered.

If you Google for "mütze", "landmann mütze", "forstmütze", "jagdmütze",
you will find a few different styles in wool, blends and cotton.
Some of them seem very traditional, some more simple, workwear.

The Austrian and German hats are special in their styles and feathers and ribbons show how looks like. Have a excellent quality in finished. So much diference with american and other european models.
Sometimes is nice change feathers and ribbons betwen, velour hats look fine with dark color in ribbon and so, some american and italian models are goods with cord. Macaw, pheasant, turkey peacock, ostrich and other feathers fowl are beautiful and are easy to get in small wares.

"All hats wich my father use like Borsa, lock and Co., stetson, selentino, wilton, montecristi and others are beautiful with feathers,also pins, and looks good with any shirts and pants"
"the my father´s hats have feathers of a grand father´s parrot, like green, deep red and other beatiful colors"
"also my fathers make a good cords to his velour hats" are special for him"
I'm sorry boys, but almost hast I have have been changed to own style.
But, I also love the original styles. THE FEDORAS ARE THE BEST THING TO USE IN ALLL THE WORLD.

Size 59cm Mayser Spezial. I am thinking mid to late 1950s but might be older. Don't run across many of these wide brim Mayser fedoras. I replaced the side photo and added another angle. Also a close-up of the bow.
