Five Star Leather Jackets

I really don't see the problem of your sleeve, but I always see the chest pockets are always too high and too wide all the way to the armpit
The width is fine. My vintage jackets bury in the pit too, and this pocket will not hold a phone.

If the pockets are too small to do anything other than be decorative, then you don’t have this issue:

The height however, is critical, you can measure off my shirt buttons. It’s exactly one inch too high.

Now it is up to me to decide if it’s worth fixing the balloon sleeves. This was my fault. The shame is that this is the absolute best leather Shawn has offered to date, without question. Far better than Vansons comp weight (current anyway). So I’m stuck in an angry place.

I would fix the sleeves and then wear the jacket until I vomit. The high breast pocket might not be what you (and I) wanted, but some of your vintage jackets have very high pockets too. I would remove the buttons on the sleeves though.
And the jacket still looks good :D

Can Dena do the buttons as well? Cause I agree with you. It’s still a killer jacket really. So if it were me while I’d 100% be disappointed as well 5 Star overall has been very good to @ton312 and screwed up one thing. Fix the sleeves, see if the buttons can be redone if not just remove them and keep it.

Damn, your current vintage line-up is out of this world. Like you've mentioned yourself, the repro's don't even come close. So why not stick to vintage?

Sadly it's hard to imagine Shawn providing any post delivery communication let alone a remake.
For everybody else yes, but not for Ton312...

To me it just seems like a simple business decision now. If one of my customer (who brings in a ton of indirect business) who is upset with me, and I have a new leather to push (2mm waterproof cowhide), I would offer a remake jacket so fast, (and get everything right), so I end up with one very happy customer, and potentially a lot more, for the cost of making one extra jacket.

Of course I am cynical in the sense that I want to see a 2mm waterproof cowhide jacket without actually paying for one. And it would help to come from someone who already has the horsehide version for comparison. And what guy doesn't enjoy a "happy ending"...

If you're persistent enough and it's undisputed that 5* screwed up, Shawn also offers a remake. Alternatively, a discount on the next jacket.
In this case it will be hard because the leather is no longer available.

I wouldn't expect a remake. TBH I f'd it up as much as Shawn. I take reponsibilty for the fit issues in the sleeves. The haphazard buttons I can forgive. The chest pocket and interior pocket are likely the result of one man (?) being bombarded via a messanger app and losing sight of small details. I just have to figure out if I want to put anything more into it.

I know you @ton312 won't (ask for a remake), that's why I think it's best (for branding) if Shawn actually does it, in the new waterproof heavy cowhide.

I see that the brown HB jacket had the correct pocket position versus this black one. But that doesn't matter now. The only thing that matters now is you (as one of his top customer) is very upset.

The only reason I bought into the 5Star jacket craze was because all the shared personal stories (not jackets) posted here. Plenty of low cost Indian/Pakistan/Chinese makers, but I keep seeing 5Star 5Star 5Star... The most notable stories (for me) were the ones from Ton and HH's 6/7oz quest.

I've got no skin in this 5star game and I am neither a friend or enemy of Shawn. I will most likely indulge in the heavy cowhide down the road no matter what happens next. But it would be nice to see top 5Star customers gets what he deserves. It's never really all just about the jackets is it.

That's part of having a jacket made at 5*. With every jacket, you learn something new.
There is, of course, an easy way to get the perfect jacket: You just specify everything down to the mm.
My Cafe Racer is one of those. I specified exactly how high the pockets should be placed, how big they should be, how long the zippers should be, and so on. Extremely many specifications lead to good jackets. Above all, you can then clearly see whether something was screwed up or not. And then usually already on the photos of Shawn.
And then you also have to say that a 5* is significantly cheaper than a jacket from other manufacturers. And even with them something can go wrong.
I've also had wrong thread color, too high pockets, too big collar and too wide waistband. Except for the wide waistband, I still kept all, because the jackets were still good.

is it that diagonal armpit crease right after the front shoulder seam? looks like the sleeve can be tucked into the body more around that front armpit area, but leave the rear alone since the rear will help with forward reaching movement. But man, the shoulder of your 5stars and your vintages are 200% cleaner than the shoulder area of your past Aero (s) honest observation here

Shawn has offered a remake on him. I think that is incredibly generous. I don’t expect that and I don’t think it would be right for me to accept it. It does show he is determined to make people happy.

I agree, you do not want to take advantage of people in general. But in this instance, I think accepting the remake and showing it when completed is a win for both you and Shawn.

Just had a wonderful call with Shawn, he will remake the jacket, in this same leather. I will not accept it for free. I will say I was wrong about the production/assembly line. They only use that model for orders of 2000 pieces or more. The biggest takeaway for me is that this is the best service I have ever recieved, from any maker, ever.

Yes, 5* is cool.
I would have also gotten a remake for my brown, because of the clearly too large neck circumference. But since the jacket is wearable and it would have been a shame, I passed on it and got a small discount on the black jacket instead.
But I thought Shawn didn't have a 2mm HH anymore?

Don’t. As is or fixed it’s not long for the 606. The doubt is there. Stain the fence in it or move it on.

A small reserve still exists.
