I’ll chime in in regards to contrast stitching. I’m generally not a fan of it tbh. It works for some styles but not on others imo. I went with it for my trucker since I wanted to connect it to the denim version which does have contrast stitching. I think it turned out great. Fivestar has solid stitch work and I wouldn’t be worried that a contrast thread would highlight errors. On my jacket there are no big mistakes with the stitching. There are a couple of small ones, but they are not that visible.

Your jacket made me decide to go for contrast stitching on my project, it's still in the pattern development phase but I'm curious how it will look when it's all finished :)

I join torfjord.
I only have a 5* with a subtle contrast and that is neatly worked.
I have no concerns. Just to be on the safe side, I would say that special attention should be paid to the contrasting seams.

I’m really looking forward to seeing your jacket finished. I think your design and the shirt that @MrProper posted are other examples of styles where a contrast stitch works with the design of the jacket.

Me too! I'm torn between brown or olive for the stitching though. It looks great with the brown but I thought it could also be nice with olive lining and stitching...still got some time until they finish the pattern.

Someone posted a Cossack a while back with olive lining and stitching if I remember correctly. It wasn’t a regular contributor. His jacket looked great.

I remember that Cossack, I know the leather was brown on that one but I think it would go well with black too.

I would have a real look at Olive again beforehand. I'm not that thrilled with the shade of color when I put it next to the olive from Aero. I'll take a picture.

Thank you so much for the comparison. I actually like that olive green a lot! Is that heavy cotton?
at least it was heavy when I ordered it lol.
Even if it doesn't look as coarse as Aero's, it seems equally thick, as long as I can judge it with my fingers.

That's good to know. Aero looks thicker indeed but the colour on the 5* is richer and I like that. If you say it's quite thick, that should do the job. I'll have to decide eventually but I like brown stitching and the olive lining too:D

Hi everyone. I am really liking what I see of 5* offerings, but I confess I'm not crazy about the leather selection they have.

Then I saw a seller in the classifieds with a jacket made by Shawn with leather he supplied - I'll post my questions here if anyone has some insight:

1.) How much leather is required to make a jacket? 30 square feet? I'm talking about a CR sized jacket.
2.) Ballpark, what would Shawn charge for the service, any ideas?
3.) Where would you get it? I wondered if it's possible to source some Horween and send it his way.

Any suggestions are welcome, thanks!

I used olive heavy cotton twill as the liner and olive stitching .The olive tone of the stitching is quiet subtle .It almost looks a little bit beige .The bobbin thread is thinner and looks like the liner and the thick top thread has a that beige olive colour

My feeling is that if you source from Tannery Row your jacket will cost a little shy of a new Aero and you won’t have their name if you want to sell later on. If you’re able to find a good leather at someplace like Tandy you’ll probably get it for 1/2 the price of Horween and lower your overall cost quite a lot.

That's looking great! I like the thread with a bit of beige in. Thank you for sharing that detail.

I don't know which colour .I guess brown like the recent hide he got send .I ask him when he sends me a update about my hereon inspired *cough* copied jacket sorry Mr.Himmel :) .

I will definitely order a cxl Halfbelt then with my Scottish tartan liner and riri hardware .Never thought I could get so close to owning a jacket in that caliber with my electrician trainee money . I would have send him the supplies already if I didn't need to wait for my last parcel
