Five Star Leather Jackets

Distilled water and a hair dryer .
Wiped it until damp and used high heat on my hairdryer to dry it and heat up the leather.I guess the wax doesn't dry in the transit bag so the leather fibers start to swell and cause a weired texture. If you remove some from the top and evaporate the moisture the fibers will shrink back to normal . I actually quite like it now. Goat tends to be quite soft but the texture was off .Now it's all good .

What kind of wax was there on the jacket? Did you order that? Because I didn't have any wax on my two goatskin jackets.

I'm also interested in knowing. I don't think I had any wax on my goat trucker either. There was something else though, that I don't know what it was. I rubbed it with water to help the grain develop when it was new. Rubbing it with water produced some sort of soapy residue that I wiped off. Has anyone else experienced the same?

I could not put my finger on what it was .
There was a white residue in one of the button holes and the leather had a slippery waxy feel on the outside .You had no grip .I remember Shawn talking about waxing the jacket before shipping it out causing bad smelling jackets .So they wax the jacket one day before shipping it out. Maybe it got shipped too early

By the way, I took my CR for some small alterations and I think they messed it up. I spoke to Shawn before going local and he said it would be too expensive to have it sent back. When I went to them today there was a safety pin in the sleeve... I've asked them why did they do that as it's leather and they replied "how else are we going to know where it needs to be trimmed?" - really???

I only went there as they had a lot of good reviews for dealing with leather jackets. I told them I wanted a bit of taper around the waist and a slight trim above the elbow...they trimmed below the elbow too...I'll see when it's all done, but I'm very disappointed in their approach.

It is definitely more expensive and that wouldn't be an issue if they would do their job right. I doubt this is the case after what I saw. They also told me it will be ready at 14:15, turns out it's not. I really don't like when you have to pay for crappy services. I'm going to have to take this one on the chin as it's my fault for trusting them.

I am sending a jacket to Shawn because I have had too much money wasted because of idiots who claim they can work on leather just because theier sewing machines can handle it . Paid 50€ to get the sleeves destroyed on my irvin .3 cm length difference and from 2,5cm fur to 5cm fur cuff . Shortened 4cm more then I asked them (they claimed it was the proper length now ). Had to pay 200€ to get the bottom of the sleeve remade ... . Stitching a patch on my vintage A2 .Missed the patch and did not follow the curve what so ever .The lining was ripped in that place and they still stitched through the lining. Either I watched to much Bedos leather work or their should change theier profession . ( Is mild swearing allowed here ?)

Haha, You don't want to know how many times I swore while writing my post. I cannot understand how some can be so careless and still get customers. And I don't think we are asking too much from them to be honest, they have their prices according to what they have to do so if I'm paying for it means I expect them to do a great job. There's not much left for me at the moment but wait until they tell me it's been done and see what the result is.

Went out in my goatskin G-1 & it rained hard, soapy residue appeared as described by yourself. Just wiped it off.

I’d certainly send jackets to Shawn for alterations (in fact Shawn has altered a jacket I sent him..perfectly), nearest leather worker to me has done some bad work and some lazy work..several month lead in and expensive...won’t be going back. I have an Eastman that I want modified to fit better...that will need to be a face to face, I’ll use Byson Leather in the UK for that, bit of a trek to Pakistan.

Its pretty far but I wanted him to make me the same jacket with my specification's and hardware zips and lining so I ship him a packeage anyway . I might also send him some of my friends own shearlings so He can use it for the collar on my irvin project .I want to have 25mm smooth fur on my collar

it is just my own observation, the more the inside of the elbow is curved the more the sleeve creases would centralized around the inside of the elbow leaving forearm and upper arm less creased, and if the leather is heavy but supple the weight of the leather would cancel out that creases due to gravity and its own weight during the time the jacket is unworn if you hang it on hanger the curved sleeve naturally want to drop straight down by gravity, and the already set in creases get pulled out and smoothen overtime. if you want maximum creases throughout entire sleeve, then don't rotate the sleeve forward, don't make the inside of the sleeve curved (have it only on the outside to make room for elbow) and make the sleeve slim but not tight to make room for creases to appear unhindered by your own arm flesh and yet slim enough so every arm movement would make a crease, this way I hope the creases would appear evenly throughout the entire sleeve length. this is the route I'm going to do to my biker jacket.

3.5 weeks have passed since I has ordered. Today i saw the first pictures of the pattern. I'm afraid 5* has currently a lot to do.

I write a pdf file have details of what I want Shawn to do on my jacket. Shawn confirmed he received my gmail. And 2 weeks passed he still hasn't answered me.

Same thing happened to me at first, then we started to communicate through WhatsApp and everything was easier there. I suppose he got really busy lately so it's even slower.

After the war...went to pick up the jacket today and here's the result, will never use those guys again and when I asked them why did they alter the sleeves below the elbow they said they thought that's how I wanted. You can see how graciously they've done it in the first two pictures. The jacket looks better now but the leather is messed up.

Looks great fit wise but thats a hack job on the sleeves.
