Maybe this is a Canada thing because returning something from the US to a reputable British seller gets you your customs and such refunded too. Indeed the shippers usually handle that for the vendor.
I have bought and returned from Aero, Trickers, and End Clothing. Aero was exchange so no extra duties but I had to pay the return shipping which is very expensive. Trickers was the best, I paid nothing and got a replacement, they paid for everything, this was before Brexit not sure what they’re like now. End Clothing was same as Aero. I’ve also bought from Farfetch they handled all the logistics and I also paid nothing but their fashion.

RMC UK prices are way overpriced even compared to other western dealers. And they don’t give you back duties either according to their return page, but they do take returns which the Japanese RMC dealers will not.

Ah I see. Honestly not surprised at all that RMC UK would be scummy like this.

Our UK members have been complaining about them for years.

Yeah but it beats the alternative of keeping a 1400 dollar jacket I’ll never where.

If I buy another jacket from RMC UK will I have to pay customs again on the new coat?

I would assume so considering that that would be a new import in its own right and RMC UK isn’t bothering to facilitate reclaiming duties. You pay customs on your import to the government, usually via the shipper.

Maybe contact the shipper who delivered it to see if they could do something when you return.

Yes, you will 100% pay taxes on a new replacement purchase from RMC - since the store closed they dont seem to be much more than an box-shifter with a ridiculous upcharge if you buy in the UK

I’ll then try to find a McCoys reseller here in the States and just take the refund from McCoys UK instead of exchanging. I did PayPal in four on it, so I can cancel the remaining payments once they green-light me for a refund.

Wow, I handwaved some of the upcharge based on the costs of Central London shopfront real estate, staff, etc but that's just ridiculous.

IMO if you're going that route I'd recommend going for the jacket type from someone else. Like I said, your build is basically the opposite of any RTW Japanese pattern.

Indeed - I visited the London store(s) on a few occasions and you could definiitely see where (some of) that extra was going - the staff were always extremely helpful and accomodating, the shelves were stacked with fantastic things, and it was a genuinely great shopping experience. Not so any more, it is basically run from a unit in Leeds at present as far as I can tell.

I’m really thinking Aero now!

Would Aero work with my body type, tho?

Good news: RMC got back to me and sent me the paperwork to return the jacket.

Aero says there is a 12-week wait, but that's fine because it is already 20 degrees where I live, and that is a fall coat so that it will be ready for Fall ‘25.

Tall and slender you may find the square shoulder cut (and long) from the likes of 4speed/IRon heart better, JL slim fit type III. With the Aero or the Vanson or the McCoy one from two years ago I showed you, you’ll need more length and the upper sleeve may be on the baggier side. I’ll give you a pic of mine tomorrow.
