My most versatile hat is a slate-grey Stratoliner with a 2.5" brim.

But I have a medium Brown Whippet that's also extremely versatile. I'd say a dark color in grey or brown is pretty much a universal color.

Sounds to me like gray would harmonize with almost everything except for your brown and kakhi stuff - including your black overcoat, which you could wear over the brown stuff.

I started with a gray hat which matched most of what I had, then got a brown one the following year to cover the rest. You might want to consider that strategy... especially since you'll probably find that a single fedora won't satisfy you for very long!

I started with a gray, then went with a light brown..... Now I am looking at Black, Silver Belly, etc. That is how it starts isn't it? :D

This is a decent capture of the currently available whiskey color, from Art Fawcett at Vintage Silhouettes. The shading changes (like felt!) in various lighting.

Here's my Cane's Creations Whiskey felt fedora with a "Dark Coffee" ribbon:

I would describe the color as a mid-brown with a very warm golden hue, especially in direct sunlight (as you can see). It's really quite beautiful, and I find it to be a very versatile color.

What color is whiskey on a fedora? Depends on the color of the fedora on which the whiskey is spilled. In my experience, whiskey tends to darken the fedora, at least initially.

I've been biting my tongue on that one. I was going to say 'Well it's darker than brandy but lighter than gin." :D

By the time I get to spilling whiskey on my fedora, I can't tell what color it is. :D

Seriously, though, here is a pretty good color rendering of one of my VS hats in whiskey.
