Finds and Deals - Leather Jacket Edition

This is the label on my Taubers I purchased from John. I would love to know the dates the various Taubers labels were used

me too. I don’t know exact dates but recall reading in another thread that this is the early HH label from the 50s. The black label, more commonly cowhide, was used in the 60s and 70s. My Tanaka book is in storage but I think he described a similar loose timeline. But I do wish I knew more exact dates, like TM has posted in the Sears thread.

This is the earliest Taubers jacket I have. This jacket is dated late 40s by the zipper. Taubers began business around 1941. Note the Nob Hill

This is a more common label. This look to have been used throughout the 1950 and probably until the early/mid 1960s.

This label is the latest I have seen. Note there is not mention of Horsehide. I assume that Taubers only used HH until this label. These jackets are not horsehide. There is more variation of this last label which I have seen.

Thanks TM. Now I remember you mentioning the Nob Hill label as the earliest. Very cool.

For my current collection this is the earliest. I believe there may be an older label seen on an A2 style jacket. I will have to search.

On a jacket dating I go by original zipper date if it tells a story. Some do some don't, at least to me.

The Nob Hill half-belt has a Talon zipper with a stop that can be dated early post war to late 40s/early 50s. The pull can add a more precise dating. I will have to do a thread on zipper dating.

The "two label" jackets are the most common. This label seems to go into the early/mid 60s with the Talon Tear Drop pocket pulls.

Most 50s zippers are the same to me. If there are significant differences I don't know or see them. 50s jackets seem to look like 50s jackets to me.

I was hoping you would come to the rescue,:) Terry.

I am always quite happy to talk Taubers. They were a very interesting maker of leather goods for many years. I've gotten a better sense of what they produced through the years. Fairly straight forward offering of working Leathers for Police, working men. My half belt is about as "fancy" as I have from Taubers. It too, is a working jacket, perfect for a trucker or Cabbie.

This is pretty nice. I've got an original, I've owned a black ELMC, these are fine jackets. I would only want clarification on the customization, the zipper, snap, side adjustments. The side adjustments look factory. Mine had the zipped pocket too. The black I owned had the pleated sides as my Windward original. I have seen an original with the side adjustments as on this example from Eastman. Mine was also a 42 and a bit tight on me, but a fine feeling jacket.

You're right, I didn't notice those changes. If you go to Eastmans website they still show the model you had in black, without snap and side adjusters.
