Finds and Deals - Leather Jacket Edition

Pretty sure I owned this one a while back. Probably closer to a small 42 or even a large 40 in the chest. Which is why I moved it on. Also, you best be fit or skinny, as the drop from chest to bottom hem is no joke. All that to say, if it fits, this is a special and rare jacket at a great price.

Does anyone have any insight on this? I didn't know levis ever made a horsehide jacket. And the label doesn't look like it's from the 50's. But it's a cool zipper

Mega cool jacket. Nowhere on this jacket does it says what it's made of so the claim that it's horsehide is dubious and these were all made during the early 2000's but regardless, it's an awesome jacket that's always very, very pricey, whenever one turns up. I've seen them go for over a grand.

Leather could be either cowhide or horsehide, but I'd bet on cow.

Levis modern take on those old Score jackets. Probably some other makers too. I would bet cow. Still a stellar jacket. If I found one that fit I’d be all over it. There is a vintage score on Etsy that always tempts me.

Christ, WHY would someone cut the epaulets off of a $2500 leather jacket? What kind of moron does this?

In was that kind of moron a couple of times on jackets I owned - but never that expensive. I can't see myself ever paying that for a jacket - takes the fun our the hobby for me.

Don’t some Fine Creeks come that way? Don’t they come from the “factory” already cut? I swear this is a thing they do....maybe I’m making that up or you guys are being sarcastic ha. Either way I agree why cut them off? Either make a jacket with them, or simply make a jacket without them. Why cut? I think it was some marketing gimmick about how they age differently and look cool.

Picture looks like they were just sliced off. What a travesty

"The Leon Custom is based off the Leon Style Fine Creek produces but the custom has the belt and shoulder epaulettes cut off by hand to feature a more "DIY" look to the jacket that adds a bit more character."

Their(Fine Creek) double rider is available in two models: one with a belt and epaulets, like you’d find on a Schott Perfecto, and the other without. The ones without were actually originally made with a belt and epaulets, but Fine Creek cuts them off post-production. “They’re modeled after how certain vintage leathers were found” explains Kiya Babzani of Self Edge. “Years ago, bikers would cut these details off because they didn’t like how they flapped in the wind. We like our DRs without the belt or epaulets, so we had them make us the ‘cut off’ version.”

Wow. I can't believe they would do that. Guess its cheaper than making 3 models, but it seem like an insult to the intelligence
