I wonder whether the seller thinks 'echtes leder' is a brandname :)

Oh, absolutely. I was just thinking about that. Lot of people still seem to think it's some kind of a legendary brand name. Something I've been hearing so many times when I'd locally buy a jacket, how they've got a brilliant Echtes leder jacket they'll never sell even though it's worth thousands now.
Same thing with vera pelle.

If anything, it's a signifier of poor quality.

Same seller has a companion cross-zip for this jacket, buy the set.

California Creations are pretty nice jackets, on par with Lesco. I've handled a few, they are well made, good leather. I've never seen one like that center-zip CHP from them before. Sadly, I think they went out of business within the last year or so.

I’m really thinking about it. Just different enough to be interesting.

Asking price is high, I'd offer $200-225, and settle on $250 if I really wanted it. For the center-zip, it's got to be a less common style, so if you want it, that maybe justifies paying a bit more for it. I'd be thinking about it seriously if it was a 42.

it is labeled as size 12 men's, but I think this is american women's sizing right?

Christ, WHY would someone cut the epaulets off of a $2500 leather jacket? What kind of moron does this?
well as has been mentioned here once the jacket is no longer new and on the resale market, it is no longer a $2,500 jacket closer to a $1,200 jacket. Why should any of us be judging what others do with their jackets to individualize them, be it washing them tossing them in the dryer, body surfing in them, adding spot work or patches, or never wearing them in the rain to keep them looking like the day they were completed.

My rule of thumb for American jackets, if it has numerical sizing that is low (8, 10, 12, etc, not 38, 40, and so on), or the chest zipper zips to the right and not the left, it is almost certainly a women's jacket. For instance, I believe these two Brooks jackets are a men's and a women's, respectively. The second jacket was actually marked as a size 38, but since the zipper went to the right, I didn't think it was a men's.
