Fightin' Words in the Lounge

Saw a thread in the Hat forum with a few contentious words between hat sellers. Kept my nose out for once. But, seeing as these guys offer their wares in the public square and there develops a discussion about one or the other's veracity, ethics, quality etc. do we dive into this and flesh-out the stories or kindly ask them to handle it privately? I like a good fight and find the whole thing pretty entertaining and sometimes informative. Is this legitimate or immature?

I don't have a problem with it as long as the "discussions" remain professional. Topics such as quality are definitely appropriate in the Lounge. These posts tend to draw out the opinions of other Loungers which I find to be very informative.

However, when ethics are called into question and things begin to get personal I think it's time to move into a private discussion. At this point I feel that the overall contribution to the forum has been lost. The discussion is no longer benefiting others. Besides, too many negative comments make all parties involved look bad.

Just my opinion.

I'm no rat - so you all are on your own. Its more of a general question tho - just asking for opinions - no policing required as far as I'm concerned.

The bartenders keep things nice and civil like...which is great. So if you have a grievance, the bartender not only provides great traffic control but acts as the bouncer as well. Great system if you ask me.

One thing I love about the Lounge is the restraint. You see situations where people appear to be getting a little flushed under the Fedora and things remain civil.

I have to admit, I do find watching and sometimes participating in a good internet row entertaining if it is based around something I am passionate about.

But it's all a bit "lowest common denominator" and generally not becoming of ladies and gentleman, I feel.

I have to agree, the bartenders to a great job of moderating and helping things cool down when needed. I was just giving my opinion to clevispin's post. Ultimately it's the moderator's opinion, not mine, that matters anyway.

Personally, if the discussion gets too heated I tend to lose interest and stop reading the thread anyway. Just giving my two cents worth (I usually get change back).

Thanks for your imput. I am a Bartender in the HATS section, but NO..suprise! I do not read every post...who has the time? If ANYONE has a problem, or wants to alert me to someting I missed...please PM me and you are assured that your thoughts are kept in confidence.

I have a job, wife, two dogs, a house, a plane, three cars, and mutiple hobbies..not to mention my boy just started high school today!

So...NO... I am not here 24/7..and no Bartender is. I don't want to know anyone who spends his entire life in the dark with a monitor in his face.
