I was a few days, very few indeed, in a place near the Tonale Pass that divides the regions of Trentino Alto Adige and Lombardy

With our friends who hosted us, we took long walks on paths of varying commitment, some easy, others were really challenging

We stopped at high altitude pastures for some sandwiches

I am attaching some photographs of the alpine landscape and one of your truly without a hat,

with a bandana to shelter from the air of high altitude.
It didn't work so much, I came back with a bit of fever and my throat was on fire.
Breathtaking scenery Daniele! Thanks for sharing. I sometimes need to be reminded that there's a big, beautiful world out there waiting to be enjoyed.

Definitely not a fedora, so I’m taking some liberties. Today’s hat is a Bailey 3X Beaver, and it certainly did it’s job.

Up at 0400 for a day of fly fishing. The heat dictates high elevation (I fished both sides of the Sonora Pass that is just below 10,000 feet). Clark Fork of Stanislaus River, South Fork Stanislaus River, Mill Creek, and the West Fork of the Walker River.

You know you’re up high when there is still snow in August. The Walker River has a lot of glacial silt and the fishing was uncharacteristically slow. The Walker produces some big fish, but not today.

This is a part of California most don’t get to see. The military has also recognized the area’s potential, and they still allow access to the river!

I’m a hack! I should take a class since my technique is so poor. I know I’d put more fish in the creel if I actually knew what I was doing. I don’t have a problem paying for equipment, but a few lessons would be money better spent.

No Marryat reels in my small collection. I’m a poor public employee trying to pay for a hat habit.

I tried fishing the South Fork of the Merced last week and it was a competition between my back going out and me dying of heat stroke. Triple digit temperatures ruin lots of things. The high elevation guarantees cool weather...although I regretted my decision to leave my waders at home. Seeing the water melting from the glacier should have been an indicator that it was cold!

Looks like a western Homburg, and a beautiful fishing trip. I have a fly rod, but don't use it much. I make my own spinners and prefer that method, generally.

What a gorgeous area. I've always loved the alpine, high altitude lakes for camping, hiking and fishing.

Here are some of my favorite spots. Heart Lake, in Little Lakes Valley. Grass Lake, out of North Lake trail head. Crystal lake out Mammoth, can get too many visitors but does contain Goldens! All of these spots require a few miles of hiking to get to.

Lovely spots, Ed. I’ve only caught two Golden Trout, and I’d love to add to the number. I waded our waist deep yesterday and I still haven’t thawed out.

I turned down spots at June Lake and Bridgeport in order to advance my career, but I often think of what I missed out on.

I can't tell y'all how much I enjoy seeing y'all's photos of the places you adventure. I've worn brimmed hats as outdoors/"work" hats sinceI was in my teens, and to me that is the truest purpose for such a hat - protection from the elements. I've only in the last few years considered wearing "dress" hats.

Thanks to everyone who has taken the time to share their "Fedoras Afield". This is one of my favorite threads here on the Lounge.

I hope you all enjoy a peaceful Sunday afield!
