My trip to Eugene today became something of a trip down memory lane. I grew up there, moved away when I joined the USAF in 1974. After a nice visit with Mike Miller, I needed to ship a care package to @steur in Holland. The nearest post office was the original US Post Office of my youth. I had not been in there in 40 years! It was just the same, save for the prices of today. Across the street is the Oregon Electric Railway Station, built in 1912, it is now a restaurant and was owned by the famous runner of the U of O, Alberto Salazar. It is a fine restoration.

Mike it is real interesting to see a piece of your heart after forty years.
I was a little bit moved, I know I'm getting old and I'm more sensitive to memories

I also drove down 5th Street to the old house I grew up in. It was a huge old 3 story built in the 1920s. It is now a "boarding house" with multiple apartments... looks the same, only with added stairs to the upper level.

Went up the creek a mile or two. No paddle, but did have a Stetson.

The natural hieroglyphics look like a boob to my 14-year-old brain...

That’s a Bald Eagle nest over my shoulder. Couldn’t capture a photo, but did see two adults and two juveniles on our way back.

Not sure of the origin of the feather so I returned it to the ground after the photo. There are Federal Laws against possession...

...and of resale of whatever was in this bottle (found on the long-abandoned road that followed the creek to what was rumored to be a Moonshine still next to the spring).

In looking for arrowheads I often canoe a river to get to spots where Native American villages once were. While they are not common I do see pictographs usually in locations where they can not easily be vandalized in modern times. It can be interesting trying to understand what they might mean.
Where I live there are a lot of petroglyphs, usually in canyons. The best ones are in remote locations. There are many Pleistocene lake beds and the high shelves above them were locations to ancient encampments. Some of the artifacts are pre bow and arrow. Very interesting subject!

Some interesting things have gone on in these sparsely populated Ozark Hills

During the Civil War & yrs after so much happened in the Sni A Bar hills. Today the Sni A Bar hIlls are just miles of rolling hills, smaller than the Flint Hills. I couldn't figure out their importance. Then it finally dawned on me that 150 yrs ago these gentle rolling hills were covered with thick scrub vegetation that grew from 3' to 6' tall, volunteer trees, etc. An excellent place to conceal men & horses. Nearby was an area that was a natural Texas Tall Grass Prairie with lots of natural cover. Not long after that tall grass prairie was tilled over & today holds mini estate homes & farms.

I took a drive down to the little town of Waverly, AL (pop. 145) this past weekend to check out a music/art festival going on there. The graveyard in the last couple of photos had graves pre-dating the civil war. It was across the road from the festival site. The last picture is a piece of work titled "Stacy Adams Dog" by Tuskegee, AL artist James "Buddy" Snipes, who I met at the festival and purchased the art from.

Very cool, Cuz. Been through Waverly a couple of times. Had no idea about such a festival. Love the art piece.

It was a cool gig, Cuz. The Old 280 Boogie, they call it. First time for me to try it out, but they've apparently been doing it for years, ever since that stretch of 280 got 4 laned and bypassed the little town.
