Here's a long-haired country boy rewrite based on some other work that was shown here. Maybe it'll spark some further creativity down this road. Feel free to change or add or delete or ignore or whatever. I see there's already some potential lyrics out there, this was fun to write, though:

--

People say I'm no good, and crazy as a loon
'Cause I wear straw in the mornin', I wear felt in the afternoon.
Kinda like my old blue tick hound, I like to lay around in the shade.
I may have spent my whole pay on vintage, but I damn sure got it made.

Cause I ain’t asking nobody for nothing,
That I can’t buy all on my own.
If you don’t like the way I’m spending,
You just leave this long beard, hatted boy alone.

Fashion man talking on tv, puttin' down the trilby hat,
Says he wants to form a delegation to put an end to all of that.
Sinatra wore them proudly and I know that it’s true,
Sometimes I think that old fashion man - he outta do a little wearin', too.

Cause I ain’t asking nobody for nothing,
That I don’t won’t to sport on my own.
If you don’t like the way I’m trucking,
You just leave this long beard, hatted boy alone.

A poor girl wants to marry, a rich girl wants to play,
A rich man shops with Art Fawcett, a poor man at eBay.
Jimbo wants another blue grass green, Bobby wants a new moonstone,
I don’t want much of nothing at all but I’ll take an open crown bespoke.

Cause I ain’t asking nobody for nothing,
That I can’t dent all on my own.
If you don’t like the way I’m bashing,
You just leave this long beard, hatted boy alone.

Cheers,
Nathan

Oh yeah . It really is good . Thankfully it didn't stick in my head like Hank Jr's did . haha

Thank you

I recorded that back in 2014 when I first got new recording software ... was testing it out.
I played all the instruments
I absolutely love Jim Croce

I was looking for some photos on an old flash drive and found it .... I put it up on YouTube recently because the 20th of this month marks 44 years of Jim being gone... was going to share it with friends on Facebook

In case anyone is curious about what we are discussing

do you remember it happening Michael?

if so I'd love to hear anything you remember about that time and how you heard ... or anything really about it

Oh yeah , Jim (Fruno) and I are the same age pretty sure . Jim Croce was on Mid-night Special a lot , and had a bunch of popular songs out on the radio . It was a plane crash , several people died , I think it was his band . Sad .

moon, I was in my first year of high school when he died. We had a really good, independent rock station in town then and that's where I got the news. It was talked about a lot in school the next day. Very sad. Me and most of my friends listened to him and I still do.

With these kind of lyrics, who around here wouldn't?

Well outta south Alabama came a country boy
He say I'm lookin' for a man named Jim
I am a pool shootin' boy
My name Willie McCoy
But down home they call me slim

Greg @Bamaboots did you graduate in 77 ?

I played football and worked all the time . I think FM didn't come in until 76? or around there . It was AM until then . It was a different world back then .

Michael, I graduated in 75. Around here, then, it wasn't High School until 10th grade, so it would have been the start of my junior year, 73-74, when he died instead of my previously stated first year. Damn, I'm getting old.
