Generally, a 2.5 to 2.75 brim - my Fed III (2.88x2.75) and Cattleman (3.25) are a little too wide.

And about a 4.25 to 4.75 crown - my Fed III, with a center-dent of around 5, is a little too high.

Why are so many young skinny guys afraid to wear wider brims? I do it all the time. It use to be the standard for skinny guys to wear a 2 1/2 to 2 3/4 brim.
Is Everybody lying to me that the wider brims work for me? I think bigger guys can pull off stingies and skinny guys can pull off wider brims, its all in the presentation and how you wear it.

I would say that your avatar photo looks good with a fairly wide brim. I personally go for a similar style when I'm in town socialising: grey fedora with a dark suit. I am fairly skinny and quite tall and I think I would look better in a wide brim than a stingy. I would probably never wear anything under 2 1/4".

I agree that most people could pull off either. Sean Connery is quite tall and looks great in a trilby/stingy in From Russia With Love. Bogart is quite short and looks great with a fairly wide brim on his famous fedora.

My favorite Stetson (in avatar) has a 2 3/8 brim and 4 1/2" C-crown .

These are the dimensions that seem to be most flattering on my relativiely small frame.

As with DrStrange, my Cattleman's 3 1/4" brim, is way too wide for me. And even 2 5/8" in a fedora brim feels wide. Similarly, anything stingier than 2" looks silly.

As for open crowns, anything more than 5 1/2" can't be bashed low enough.

Lower crown, wider brim. Right now, I'm loving my Stylemaster, which has a 2.5" brim, but I don't know exactly what the crown height is.

I'm still too new to fedoras to give exact numbers, but I can say that I get the most compliments when I wear my Fed IV and I don't think it's because of the color. That's just the one that seems to most compliment my facial features and my build/frame.

It seems like every recent hat purchase is my favorite dimension..

Yup. It's certainly the case that the range of hat styles I prefer has expanded right along with my collection. But I still feel compelled to wear each new acquisition for a coupla-three days and linger a second or two longer at the mirror.

I like an open crown of 5.5"-5.75" and a brim of 2 3/8 - 2 7/8". Pretty wide numbers but it depends on the style. More formal hats have the narrower brim. Bashed I like the crown to have about 4 3/4" in the front but it can go up to 5" on the sides.

My favorite hat (and the one I receive more complements wearing) has a 5 7/8 crown with a 2 3/4 brim.

I think you're right that pretty much any body shape/size can wear pretty much any size brim/crown. But i don't see any evidence that skinny guys don't wear wider brims.

The measurements of the hats that i have kept tend to hover around 5" to 5 1/2" crown and 2 1/4" to 2 1/2" brims, with a few wider.

4 1/2 - 5 1/2. 4 1/2 Is usually the bottom of a cattleman crease. Fedoras 5 inch nice straight peak at the front and a taper to the back. Brim usually 2 1/2 to 3
2 1/2 on a fedora to 2 5/8 3 on westerns. That is for now. I basically love the OR size. One thing that makes a difference is the roll of the brim though. A 3 can look like a 2 5/8 if rolled. By rolled I mean saucered up not rolled over like a homburg or a full pencil roll.

I grew up in a very particular culture. My family, father and grandfather, were both heavy hitters in the 50's and 60's in the meat packing industry and also ranchers. All the executives in the stockyards wore either very short brimmed cattleman's hats or Open Roads. Presumably, and based on my memory, to differentiate them from the cowboys, ranchers and customers in the stockyards.
Edit:
Here's a picture of my father circa 1963. pretty sure that's an Open Road
