Aw, thanks you all for the compliments on the pictures. I wasnt expecting such a warm response. Thats so sweet!

I never met my Great Grandmother. She died decades before I came a round.

Yeah, my Granny was a looker back then. So was my Mama, and she knew it ;). Shes the one on the right.

I love this pic! They're both so tough and pretty, girly and bad, they remind of a Shangri-las song. I like a girl who knows she's a looker.

THANK YOU LizzieM for this thread...

This gal's hair in the foreground is EXACTLY how I want to do my hair!!

And the girl in school clothes 1944 is a perfect example for daughter Sarah.

What that school girl from 1944 is wearing is close to what I wear on a regular basis. I'm much older than her of course. It's a style I've seen on girls in the 1940s-50s and on mature women as well, all through the 1960s. I nearly only wore plaid wool skirts and knits all Fall/Winter.

Lady Day, those two ladies in shades define coolness!

I wanted to cry at not being able to save these from an antique store. There was a whole box of them but they were $4-12 each and I can't afford that right now. I might just go back for her though. Do you think there would be any way to persuade the owner to let me scan them then give them back?

I do this all the time myself -- it's a great way to put orphaned suit jackets to use.

The little girl at lower left looks like she's expecting the worst for some reason...

My dad's mum used to do the same back then too so he tells me. Am definitely going to be keeping an eye out for a suit jacket myself now.

Yes I noticed the little girl too! I'd love to know who/what she's looking at!

I favored that look too in the 1990s and I think many mature women did as well.

ok so this is a great thread :eusa_clap I love it. And here are pictures of my family before they left Cuba in the late 50's or early 60's I am going to guess on the year of the photos.
this is my abuela (grandmother) I think she was around 16 so that should make it around the late 30's early 40's
