I hope so, too!

What a lovely woman your grandmother seems to be! And, in the next to last snap....is that hat on the right as....SQUARE....as it appears to be? Do you have any memory of it?

Lovely stuff; thanks for sharing it with us.

This is a great thread!

I love seeing everyday women...even though it makes me a little sad that not everyone is this poised and gorgeous anymore.

It's funny, I was looking through some old pictures with my grandma, and I told her how I thought that women in the 1940s and 50s were so beautiful, and I could honestly not find an "ugly" woman in the bunch!

Gram's response? "I always think we were plain compared to girls today!"

Well if that is the case, I want to be plain too!lol

Thanks for the comments. Most of these pics I got when I went home for my mother's funeral a few years ago. I scanned most of them, and plan to make a book for my Granny. I want to sit with her while she tells me about them, so I can document the people and what she was doing.

I think this is her about 14 or so.

All lovely!!

I have a particular obsession with anonymous (and stylish!) photobooth ladies:

I'm going to plotz from all these wonderful images - Lady Day, your granny looks like she was one terrific lady!

I love those photo booth ladies - makes me want to get dolled up and make one of my own!

Imagine living in a world where one wears a fur coat to the carnival. Now that's style.

Great pics!!

The other possibility, perhaps, is...at the train station; then the style--so very much apparent--is perhaps less "odd"...and this looks like dress for a fairly cool day.

Just a thought.

From Square America.

Not only an obsession: an eye! Quite a collection. I hope we'll see more of them. This sort of documentation is priceless (as well as....fun! :D )

Dear LD, I should have read more closely...the woman I mentioned (as looking like a charming person) in my previous is your GREAT-grandmother, not your grandmother. Did you ever meet her?

But your family ALL look marvellous: you clearly have good genes!

Keep on posting 'em.

OMG! This is my fav pic of this thread. All the ladies in that pic are lovely, but that grin of Granny's says she knows there will be trouble later that night (the fun kind of trouble)
