shirt blouse jacket?

Feraud said:
Are you saying this is a modified shirt?
The waistband detail is great.
YES.
I've seen postwar european military shirts done up the same way as well.

I'm really not sure how it was worn. Maybe over a white T-shirt in the tropics or down south? Maybe over another shirt&tie as a very lightweight jacket?

It would look a lot nicer had it been converted from a shirt with epaulets & pleated pockets.
A much easier project that cuttign down heavy wool.

Bringing back a memory

This thread reminded me of my father's Ike jacket. He got it when he served in the Army during the Korean war. I used to wear it to elementary school. It had his SSgt stripes on it, an 8th Army (IIRC) insignia, but I don't recall what else. Wish I knew what happened to it...

Cheers,
Tom

I don't think Jerry actually WANTS to sell people stuff, because then he might have to have more of it made, which he seems never to want to do.

Why, oh why do all his shirts have what he terms 'a long body'?

The whole style of British BD (topical or otherwise) is to be short, worn with high waisted trousers or shorts. This shirt just doesn't look right IMO. WPG are not the only people who do this...

I have a vintage green denimBD, (but made in Belgium). Its definitely not longbodied. Frankly, I'm not crazy about it or its waist buckle closure.
I'll try to get a pic of it soon.

BTW, is it true that some of the German Uboot crews wore these jackets from a captured storehouse?

today

Had lunch w/ some FL members. Bartender Feraud wanted to see the officer ensemble dressed down for streetwear. By sheer luck, the dark OD trousers purchased last January match the officer ike procured last week.
`57 khaki shirt. And a spare dark OD tie also picked up at Reading for a buck. Hat is a biltmore.

Yes- captured British Denim BD- Dunquerque - changed buttons.
The Kreiegsmarine adopted their own, similar cotton uniform too.

Yes, I'm acquainted with Mark- have corresponded with him in the past over Khaki and Screaming Eagles. I have been collecting militaria for many years.

That's a nice one, that Ike'd '43.

Do you have the Schiffer Airborne book, "Geronimo", Bern?
And the "Airborne Album",by John Andrews?
Some interesting non-regulation dress in there.

BTW Bern, what size are you for pants, shirts and jackets..?

My Ike'd M-43.

Still no camera...
But I just had a look at my Ike'd M-43- just recovered from deep storage- now re-packed-down for our move in 2 weeks.

Anyway- it differs from Mark Bando's one in that it is not gathered into the waistband, it has been tailored at the back and sides, rather nicely, in order to give the snug, waisted shape. The waistband is around 2", a little narrower than your example and the waist closure is a single-buttoning extended bearer, rather than a buckle. I guess these were all tailored individually and probably immediately post-war, so a lot of latitude will be seen.
It's a late-war example, in excellent condition, badged and beautiful.

I may have to eBay it with the bunch of 9th AAF stuff it came with.
There is a beautiful 9th AAF Campaign scarf (screen-printed artwork and insignias, following their campaigns through the entire war)and a few patches- wish I could find my camera.
