Just me talking, but that dropped waistband and exposed nonbrass buttons just don't look quite right. But nicely crafted it is, and certainly unusual.

Oh I hear ya, that seam in the middle is a little much, but when it was a 4 pocket , it wouldve been covered by the belt.

A cut-down is something that has many solutions from different tailors, not all of them so clever.
But I really wanted one of these for its bi-swing back.
And for me, the plain buttons work since i reenact nonmilitary types, like the Press, who sometimes had their tunics changed to plain buttons.

And I jsut cant bare to pull buttons & patches off old tunics.

I jsut hope it fits...
And dont remind me how hard it will be to find a matching pair of dark OD trousers.

Imagine a full, big shoulder modern jacket, suddenly 'pegged' and brought in snug around the wasit, it would produce a sort of puffy silhouette, like a chef's hat.

This is your standard 'ricky' cut jackets from the 40's and the 50's...it looks quite sharp actually.

I was thinking more along the lines to go with jeans or other casual things. Feel free to murder me if that's a blasphemy. lol

In high school in NY, I had a pal who regularly wore an ike jkt w/ jeans.
Years later I was in california on vacation & I spottted him on the street still wearing the ike.

The popularity of the ike jkt & A-2 is on par w/ the Denim jkt a generation later.
Or the Ricky jkts of the 50s.

Sometimes BananaRepublic or GAP have cotton jkts of that ilk.

Ya know guys, if you want ike jackets I think www.atthefront.com still has some. I think he even had them in *gasp* 44r, not just shrimpy pre-1950 sizes.

Don't let his ornery and downright mean FAQ's fool you. I've heard this guy is top notch to deal with.

Congrats on the Ike jacket MrBern.
There is a small militaria shop in Queens that has one in their window. I have been meaning to go in and take a closer look at it.

Unfortunately, the ebay cut-down Ike was small & not medium as advertised.Grrrrrrr.
I am toying with the idea of having it copied after seeing Deckard's JoeHmrajani tailor thread

But I found an officer ike in dark OD elastique at Reading Airshow.

I wish it had the bi-swing back of the cut-down, but otherwise its a lovely garment. The armholes are fabulous.

Unfortunately there is no spec tag to date it.

Thanks gentlemen. I got lucky. I've been looking for one for a couple years now. A big THANKU to Riot & Photomuse for offering the ride to Reading.

Fortunately, I have trousers in pinks and dark od to match it already so I'm done searching. Not sure if I will pursue another cut-down, but I look forward to reading if anyone does manage to tailor a full tunic down to an ike for this thread.

Oh, the lesson....ebay jkt over $100 then delayed in mail & sent to wrong address, mis-sized w/ no returns. Pure frustration. Then the seller was confused why he received Negative feedback???
ReadingAirshow purchase...tried it on & haggled the vendor from $35 to $25. DONE.

re-posting the 4pocket early war tunic that was period tailored to an ike style

These early tunics have bi-swing backs allowing greater mobility for swingdancing! Later war tunics were simplified for rationing restrictions.

Great looking jacket Bern...I've kinda gone off my Ike idea, but you never know, really. It would be an ideal solution for that 4 pocket with all the moth holes in the skirt.

Yes, an early war 4 pocket w/ a battered skirt would be perfect.
Didnt you say you wanted to try this on a civilian jacket?
I've seen pix of shirts that were cut down for the tropics. I believe this was listed as a USMC item.
