Now maybe we can discus the merits of Lion Hats

So there is the clarification straight from a bartender hats4me. As long as there is no link to a live auction, the item can be discussed all we want. Hopefully without any berating in the future.

Riiiiiiight.

I never envisioned that simply wanting to learn about a hat maker would start up such a controversy. The truely sad part is that very little has been learned about the hats made by Lion.

If it's a vintage hat and a 7 3/8, it doesn't matter if people know the brand or not, it will still command a high price. Additionally, some might bid a lot for them because it is a relatively unknown brand, and would add another name to their collection. Lion Hats do not come up for auction very often.

It would be nice to find out more about them.

I have done several searches without much luck. You may be right about them being rare, as the reason for the price being as high as it was for a moth eaten hat. Maybe JP will notice this thread and provide some information. Sadly the thread was pretty much hijacked and more time was spent about ebay and not much on the hats. Thanks for your on topic input.:cheers1:

I guess what I am saying is this... outing an auction can come in many forms and in my mind, this was an out as sure as posting the link. I seem to remember some posts that disappeared very recently that I inquired about that outed an auction in much the same manner...

Exactly what I was getting at. Thanks.
As long as you say it's an active auction
and give enough information to find the
auction, what's the difference? That was
true of this thread as much as it was of
the Borsalino thread and the two tone thread, etc.

In addition, I thought some of the reason for not
posting active auctions was to keep the prices down?

I just hope whoever got those Lion hats (auction
is now over) will post pix when they arrive. If r_miami
is a member here, he/she should have a lot of
interesting (and pricey) hats to post here by now.

Langenberg Hats

It appears that Langenberg Hat Company of Missouri is now known as Langenberg Outdoor Products. They claim to be the "Successor to America's oldest hat company" and have been around since 1860. It appears that they primarily make 'caps' now - railroad and scotch, mail and hunting, etc from a check of their website. Although there are few external references to them still making felt hats - one of which is a known as the 'Beaver Brand', there wasn't anything about Lion.
