I recently placed an order for the Wesco Mr. Lou engineers in black.. I did it through the Wesco website.. as of now no indication of when I might get them, the initial run sold out pretty fast and I "heard" they cant/arent making more currently because they don't have the buckles.

Any update, did you get them, I wonder if there’s a celastic toe cap in there

Hey @regius, yes I did get the Mr Lou boots.. I like them very much.. I believe there is a celastic cap in the toe area.. Im no expert but there is something there.

Those Mr Lou kill me. I think both black and brown are the best looking boots out there. If I could roll with the MP toe I’d grab a pair quick.

Hi all! New to the forum and excited to join the conversation. Just picked up a pair of brown Mister Freedom Road Champ boots from the store here in LA this past weekend before the closures due to the virus.

I’ve been a long-time boot guy, but new to the engineer boot scene. When I saw and tried on the Road Champs in person 3 weeks ago (amazingly they had a new-old-stock pair in my size in an older style; leather sole, cats paw heel), I immediately fell in love with everything about it (material, proportions, etc.), but I didn’t buy it at the time. After a lot of research 3-weeks later, I was playing around with getting a pair of Role Club engineers from Brian because of my tie with Los Angeles (born/raised in LA), but after swinging by Brian’s shop to hear from him that the current wait is 2-years and the current price is $1,650(!!!) for engineer boots, I thought it was too much time and $$$.

I immediately called MF to see if the boots I had tried on were still available and they said, “yes!” So I drove over and just bought the one pair of boots that were calling my name from the beginning. I consider myself lucky because the guys at the shop said that their latest editions of Road Champs are set to drop late-spring and the waitlist is already closed for for this production year. It would’ve been another year if these boots weren’t there.

I don’t think MF ever gets too specific with the source of their leather. All I can say is it’s a really thick leather, not overly stiff, and the brown is more of a medium brown for this specific make (lighter than a brown chromexcel). Apparently the newest version is darker, according to the guys at MF. This is how MF describes the material for their latest version:

“* Vegetable tan cow hides, carefully selected from a reputable American tannery.

* Custom leather treatment and coloring process. Hides are not dip-dyed but individually hand-dyed. Flesh side is natural, skin side treated with 3 layers of colors for a dark chocolate brown appearance. Guaranteed to beautify with wear. The leather will develop a ‘vintage’ patina with a range of reddish brown/chocolate/olive/black tones… according to use and personal choice of oil treatment and conditioning.”

Those are dynamite. Mind sharing the price? I was hoping a pair of RC were somewhere in my future but at $1650 now it seems unlikely.

MF RoadChamp are made out of Horween, just much thicker. The deal breaker for me was the footbed veg leather surface being too slippery. They should reverse it or rough it up, otherwise the foot slides forward and the toe nail gets jammed to the already low toe box. Also, as a preference, the heel is too low.

The Road Champs were their retail price $949.95 - Not cheap, but also not $1,650, LOL.

Where were you able to find info on where MF sources their leather? I've been trying to find that info.
I can see the footbed being being an issue potentially, been walking the dogs in these boots to start breaking them in and haven't run into that issue yet. If it does, I'll have to develop a solution.

Hey all! I've been stalking this forum for a while but never really posted anything so here it goes.

I've been wearing my old Red Wing engineers for about 8 years now and I decided it's time to step up my engineer game.
I found a good deal for these almost unworn Wesco x Iron Heart 1930s engineers and decided to go for them. Yesterday they finally arrived and it's a huge improvement since the RWs. I was so happy with the looks BUT only until I put them on.. Unfortunately they are too big for me. They are not unwearable but the heel slip is significant and it just doesn't feel right.

Soo I know this might be a long shot but if anybody (preferably in Europe) is in a same pickle as me but in the opposite direction and has similar engineers in the same quality/price range/condition as these and would be willing to swap let me know! Otherwise I'll be putting them up for sale soon.

These are size 10 1/2 E.. I would need at least 10 E (maybe 9 1/2 E?) Check the picture with the finger marking my toe position and all the free space in the front (it gets better standing up but that's just the foot sliding more to the front)
