Oh, I understood about the shipping problem from the start. That was never my complaint. When he tried to extort more money out of me---then I have problems.

Ah...I sort of figured that to be the case....but hadn't seen it mentioned. ;)

Let me know

Sounds like about all you can do is file a complaint with Ebay with all of the details so he can never screw someone else over, or attempt it. And I keep thinking "Redlands? Big UFO scare in the 70's - maybe they stole his brain as an infant." lol But I might also be threatening legal action to really teach him a lesson.

He's certainly NOT going to get a better deal selling it around town, I'm sure. Redlands wasn't exactly the style center of California, and I'm sure it hasn't changed that much. You could probably find a local yokel to pay $600 for a 30 year old baseball cap ("It were dun worn by that baseball dude that hit some ball, ya know? He wore a real purdy uny-form!") but not for something like this.

It sounds like he's too attached to the hat. I personally would report him and give up on the hat. Of course you could try explaining that it's only worth as much as someone is willing to pay, and you are willing to pay more than anyone else so far.

Well, called eBay. They walked me through the seller non-performance menu and I attached the message he sent feltfan---thanks dude---the young lady on the end of the line was not amused by the seller's verbage. :p
It is obvious he isn't going to sell anything to me but I might as well make sure he isn't going to do that to anyone else either. He reminds me of the type that would burn it before he sold it to me. :fing28:  Although from his skinflinty email, it sounds like he might bronze it instead. :p
We will see what eBay does to the jerk. :D Gosh I am mean. :rage: [angel]

For Everyone's future reference

Here is what eBay sent me in reference to my complaint. It gives everyone an idea what to do if they end up in a case like mine---I hope you never have to use it:rolleyes: :

Thank you for taking the time to write to eBay's Safe Harbor department.
A non-selling seller is a serious offense and we will investigate your
report as soon as possible, usually within 24 hours.

To contact a seller about your transaction, please click on the link
below to request the seller's phone number:

http://search.ebay.com/_W0QQtZvbQQsofindtypeZ9

Next, enter in the seller's User ID and below that, the item number of
the transaction. Once this information is complete, click the "Search"
button.

In circumstances in which you are unable to contact the seller, or the
seller has not responded to your emails, we will document the seller's
account accordingly. If we are able to find evidence of non-selling, our
actions can range from issuing an educational alert, a temporary
suspension, or in some cases an indefinite suspension. The type of
action that we take depends on the specific situation surrounding an
individual account. Things such as the existence of a previous warning,
the nature of the offense and the length of time as a community member
will all be taken into consideration. Repeated violations of policies
will often result in the suspension of a member's account.

If you did not include evidence, such as an email with full headers in
which the seller refuses to sell the item, please resubmit your report
and include this information.

The full header of the email from the seller is extremely important, as
we cannot take any kind of action without it. A header will look like a
string of "nonsense" characters, similar to the example I have pasted
for you below. You can find this by using the "properties" function of
your email program.

This contains information on how to obtain specific headers for your
email client.

Please keep in mind that due to our privacy policy you will not receive
specific details of our actions. We assure you that we will thoroughly
examine your report. In certain circumstances, we may contact you by
email if we need further information. We pledge, though, that an eBay
Safe Harbor representative will quickly review your report of
non-selling and apply our guidelines fairly.

**Please do not respond to this email as your reply will not be
received.

We know your time is valuable and we appreciate you taking a moment to
express your concern to us. Thank you for helping to keep eBay a safe
and reputable forum in which to conduct business.

As you know, you are not being mean. Since eBay doesn't
deal with unscrupulous sellers effectively (as many of us know),
it is, in reality, self-policed. Taking the time to turn up the
heat on this guy is the only effective way to protect other buyers
(it is too much to hope to knock sense into this guy). You are
doing the nicest thing you can do under the circumstances.
I encourage everyone to follow up on these sorts of transactions.

I like to remind myself that I have found so many outrageous
deals on eBay I can afford to be ripped off now and then and
still maintain a good average. That's certainly true in your case!

Time to post more hats!

Well, I could be really mean and post his phone number. :p
This guy really hasn't ripped me off it is more like extortion and that actually seems worse to me. Its like, here it is you won it but you can't have it until you offer more money. :eusa_doh: [huh]
eBay in general is worth the searching and such. Yep, I sure know. :D I just want to really nail it into this guy and make an example out of him. :rage: I put in another seller non-performing complaint just to make sure they understand this. :kick:

J

Lousy break!
I hope you're able to do something to this creep. I just have Rollo Tomassi issues - you know, nailing the guy who thinks he can get away with it. Have you left him scathing feedback yet?
One thing I did when I was ripped off badly on eBay was just watch the seller's other auctions, and I emailed everyone who bid on her auctions and told them how I was ripped off and warned them to stay away. I also emailed the seller and let her know I was doing this, and I have to say, I watched her auctions be abandoned by buyers rather quickly, and I took a lot of pride in knowing that she was aware I was the cause!
(Side note: trust me, I wasn't just being harsh. I paid $75 for a vintage suit I never got - I used Buy It Now - and she never contacted me after the first invoice. I never got the suit, and I filed as much stuff as I could against her. I got an email from her a month later, saying she'd been sick but the suit was going out. Never got the suit, never heard from her again. And since I stupidly gave her the benefit of the doubt with the sick thing, I waited another three weeks before filing with PayPal to get money back, who, by that time, said ti was too late to get my money back. I called her but the number she gave in her PayPal profile was the number of a minimart a friend of hers worked in. eBay did nothing about it and I sent her an avalanche of emails and got nothing but the one email and I never got the suit or my money back. Infuriating, so I did the only thing I could.)

My gosh. I remember that guy.

But hey, when the world's supply of vintage fedoras are depleted, then I'll feel safe knowing that I've got an abundant source of "vintage" trucker hats to fall back on.

After all, I'm sure they'll go good with my three piece suits. ;)

And how 'bout those misguided souls who advertise in "Top hats"? Gee, it goes on top of your head, it must be a top hat! [huh]

And if it ain't a top hat, it's a "Durby."

Oh well, I guess it gives us a chance to find the occasional jewel hiding in the wrong category.

Yeah, and eBay sellers, please make no attempt to shape fedoras that look like they've been used as jack stands or wheel chocks... that way there's less competition! lol

(Sorry if I'm givin' away secrets here...)
