Here's what he wrote back to me:

I had that hat at the amount i wanted and everybody was complaining. I did not want to sell the hat for 36.00 dollars, its worth more than that. I am getting of ebay because all you people suck. It's stupid; you want me to loose money on the hat my grandmother paid for 35 years ago. do you want to know what she paid (39.99) and that was 30 years ago. I am not going to loose money on my stuff.

Clearly too dumb to sell on eBay.

definitely gotta let that one go. Pursuing it would be like (as my dad said) hitting yourself on the head with a hammer - it feels so good when you stop!

Ha... when you look at the grammar and spelling -- and ethics -- it's hard not to wonder......

I say this with all the loving, caring sensitivity that I can muster...

...sometimes as we journey eastward from the coast across the gorgeous expanse of Southern California, we pass through picturesque little hamlets of rural beauty -- almost like being in a bucolic twilight zone...?! :D

So umm... can you scream "Paddle Faster! I hear banjos?!" :p

Who cares. The man's clearly an idiot. I mean, come on! People tell him his reserve price is too high, so he eliminates it alltogether, and then complains when someone pays $3.99 less than what his Grandmother paid for it probably 60 years ago. -Mulceber

Hi JP...

This person should NOT be on eBay as he has no idea what is going on...I agree. However, the listing did clearly say "Will arrange for local pickup only (no shipping)" and as a very experienced eBayer that might have given you pause. (I say that with no malice or ill will) Additionally, I will be passing near Redlands next week and could possibly pick it up for you if you wish.

Let me know,

M

Our Governor Arhnuld encourages inbreeding.

Why not, he's clearly inbred himself.lol

JP, if you can evern convince this idiot to give you the hat he owes you, I would seriously consider taking Magus up on his offer. -Mulceber

Magus -- I encourage extreme caution to you in a venture like this, you being a family man, etc... However if you absolutely insist and you guys could set the transaction (preferably in a public restaurant) for some Saturday during the day -- maybe I could drive out and meet you in Berdoo for a shooter -- then go make the pick up together??

Jes' a thought if you want company/support?!

HI there JP...thanks for the offer, but I will actually be bringing some teens back from summer camp when I go that way, so shooters wouldn't be in order...lol...or I gues we could leave them to fend for themselves for a bit.

JUST KIDDING.

I have wandered some fairly rough places in my life (the back streets of Paris at night, side alleys of Honolulu, barios of LA etc. and...done so without fear, though at times I have slipped a "procautionary protectiove device" in my back pocket ;) It would be during the day, and I am sure that things would be fine.

But thanks, and under different circumstances a cocktail would be welcome.

Don't over react, be reasonalbe....

I'm sure this guy can be reasoned with.

By the way, do you mix concrete 3:1 with water, or 5:1?

Oh, I understood about the shipping problem from the start. That was never my complaint. When he tried to extort more money out of me---then I have problems.
If he actually tries to maske things right, I'll consider your offer but I ain't (Kids don't use ain't. I only use it here for emphasis:p ) holding my breath either. :p :eusa_doh:

J

1:2:3 One part cement, two parts agregate, three parts sand. Add water to desired consisitancy, pop in a bit of aluminite to make it set fast...then reinforce it with hog wire...which slips nicely over the toes....errr....I mean....rebar...yeah...thats what I meant....ummmmm....ahhhhh...nevermind.

Well if I may add my two-cents worth...

...as the old saying goes "Nothing ventured, nothing gained."

As much as I feel your pain and disappointment, the fact remains that you aren't losing any money on the deal, at least not yet. Except maybe for your time spent on ebay trying to win the hat.

My feeling is this:

If you really want the hat, offer the jerk a few dollars more, or negotiate a fair price, pick up the hat and THEN leave him the negative feedback.

This way, you have your hat, and he won't be around to burn anyone else.

Also, I prefer the five-to-one ratio on the cement. As a body has a habit of floating once it bloats, you'll want the extra weight.

Ah, or so I'm told.
