I understand that these don't come up often, AND it comes with a box. But ultimately this is a Royal Deluxe quality overwelt '40s Stetson...not a 7x, not a fifty, not a one-hundred.

Is the marketing surrounding this hat really worth an extra $350? :eusa_doh:

When the Fedora Lounge began, people like fedoralover, Andykev, jamespowers and havershaw were finding hats like this on eBay for peanuts. The good ol' days (for buyers) ...

The name and the pretty liner sell it. It's certainly a nice hat that I'd love to own, but as many have noted, put a Resistol label in it and it wouldn't sell for over $150. IMO, the Whippet and Strat are in the same camp.

Agreed, but Playboy clones seem to be harder to find - at least in larger sizes.

It would be interesting to see a thread on 'marketing enhanced' (or 'collectable') hats, and people's opinions of what makes each special, other than the marketing/collectibility.

That Flagship was a great hat, in a larger size that had not been monkeyed with and an unusual color.

Few would admit to their bias. I'm certainly guilty of buying hats based on things other than quality, design, fit, etc. My 7 3/4 Vita-Felt is too big to wear without stuffing the sweat (but Vita-Felt is rare and interesting stuff, with a short historical run) and that old fuzzy Stetson I picked up recently would have gone to someone else if I didn't believe it to be an early 20s/teens Stetson.

Put in what you're willing to pay, and you'll get it if it falls in your price range and if you loose it will because somebody's willing to pay a good bit more then you are.

I've never lost an auction where I'm willing to pay the amount the item went for.

My weakness is generally due to a historical interest - paying too much just for the privilege of 'studying' the hat.

I'll have to see how I like the look when it gets here. It looks to be in super condition, however -- and, if a re-block seems to make sense, I may send it over to Optimo.
