I looked at this one for a while but something just didn't seem right. No Stetson logo although the sweat has some nice detailed gold embossing. The hat would need to be re-blocked and it looked like the brim was cut down though it could be my eyes. It does have a nice shape to it. I will probably regret not getting it.

Maybe I will regret getting it. I see what you mean about the brim maybe being cut down - in the second to last picture the edge does not look even. Still, the overall "silhouette"--particularly the very straight crown--looks about right...

I think you're going to be very happy with this. I see what you guys are saying about the brim, but the soft felts with a slight brim curl like this, sometimes get wavy around the edge, and this one hasn't been cared for, so with luck, it hasn't been trimmed.

Regardless of manufacturer and condition of the sweat, I liked it a lot - wish it had been bigger. Good luck.

I too Think you will enjoy the hat. The shape is what I like and the sweat even with its issues is surely going to be very interesting to see close up. It should clean up well and I will be kicking myself.:eusa_doh:

Rarity and awesomeness.

That was a pretty bad picture of a decent Rainbow. It should look something like this:

I don't see the pin that it came with in the auction but they came with these:

I tried to get several extras a few years ago from a guy whose mother made them for Dobbs but he wanted waaaaaayyyyyy more than they were worth---at least to me. [huh]
I wouldn't take $85 for my Rainbow so BantamMan, I think you got a great deal. :eusa_clap

That is absolutely gorgeous...better than most of the "iconic" hats for sure, IMO. Wow.

If you want a fly, just hit up your local outfitters. You could just stick it in or you could take it to the jeweler or somebody and they could solder a pin on the hook of the fly.

Flies are typically around $2, and there's a huge selection.

Mallory Hat Box

I picked up a Mallory hatbox for my solitary Mallory for less than $14 shipped. I like to keep my hat in boxes. I asked about an insert but set a snip before the reply came back no insert.

Perfect Jon.

I do love those old hatboxes. Do we have a hatbox thread? We need one.

It actually is one of the iconic hats. This along with the Dobbs Gamebird should be well up on the list for Dobbs' offereings. :D

Yes, and since the style of each changed over the years, you'll be tracking them down for a long time to come.lol

Oi! Don't forget the Dobbs Gay Blade! (and Gay Gray, and Gay Prince).

Mine's currently being restored and will be revealed to the world soon-ish.

Thanks James! I am looking forward to the hat. Let's see if it will benefit of some steaming. I'll let you all know.

Well, Bull.. My head is 22 1/2. so.. if you want to unload some of these hats that don't fit, I'd be interested in taking a look if you throw them up in the classifieds section. (I realize this post is over a year old, but you never know!)
