Bold Look thread -- thin edge binding on top, but very wide edge binding underneath.

I got one a little over a year ago, for $250. It has been worth every penny. Around Christmas, they can bring over $400!

That's a good price for an electric stretcher. I met with Jimmy Pierce yesterday and we were discussing this type of stretcher. He sold one he bought when Stetson closed their St. Louis factory to a member here (JT, You beat me to it.) for $250.00. Wish I'd seen that auction. [huh]

Trying to shrink any garment is a crapshoot I don't advise, as all the parts don't shrink proportionally. A hatter can do it, but they have the necessary blocks and stretchers and the job usually requires new sweatbands and ribbons. A wool tweed hat is rarely worth spending all that money on a hatter, though.

You can also pad out the sweatband using foam, ribbon, or strips of wool felt. The Fedora Store sells foam for the purpose, as do the millinery suppliers like Hat Supply or Judith M. Padding it down only one size is commonly done and won't affect its appearance.

Cavanagh Homburg

7 1/4 Cavanagh homburg with "dimples"

Hi,
I received this one yesterday having gotten extra photos from the seller. I figured the "dimples" were from the center crease. Its beautiful except it appears the "dimples" have pimples, either moth or scuff where the ends of the crease were originally. I'll be taking it to Optimo shortly(1 hour away).

Family Panama Hat

Resistol panama 7 1/8 extra-lo. Apparently, it was owned by my best friend's sister's boyfriend's brother's girlfriend who heard from this guy who knows this kid who's going with the girl who saw Ferris pass out at 31 Flavors last night. (try telling me that's not a great reference)

I also nabbed this one. I finally figured out the crazy family reference. The guy was the nephew of one famous person and the first cousin of another but not famous himself. I haven't received it yet ( says 7-1/4 actually in listing).

Yup, I am the proud owner of this little masterpiece. Sharpely formed brim edges and silk ribbon. The felt is very fine and not stiff, at all. Formed by somebody, who knew, what he did. Alone the crown-shape and the crease .... mindblowing!
