I sure wish Stetson embossed model names like that! Looks very 30's or earlier. Not much info on The Superior Hat Co. other than oblique references in The American Hatter. But this looks like it's in very good condition for its age.

Here's a Denver Dry Goods ad I saved from the Lounge with their generic iteration of The Dakota model. Funny how differently copyright worked back then ("a perfect copy of Stetson's Carlsbad shape...")

"...a semi-dress hat suitable for the heavy-set man."

Yes...that is definitely me. :D:D

Defeat or victory? I love the liner, and the condition is excellent, but I didn't really want this one due to my storing space limitations.
It was offered at 350, and I offered 225 sort of to tell the seller he'd overpriced the hat.
I guess he agreed, because he accepted my offer and I had to pay for it [emoji27].

I didn’t want to mention it, but it does look like you’ve put on a couple of grams over thanksgiving. ;)

lol! Good thing I've always played fast and loose with the hat matching 'rules' anyways!

Nice Jared, I had it on my watch list despite it being small for me. Campaign ribbon and what looks like a kettle curl. Hats like this are my current obsession.

Same. I've come around to preferring these older dress (and apparently "semi-dress") western hats. The "holy grail" hat is a black Boss Raw Edge with Fray sweat, but this one looked like a nice example of the style too. The seller's multiple quick creases are hopefully an indication of the felt quality.

They did on their Dakota.......and in way cool "branding iron" font too....;). At least they did on my Dakota.....
Way cool hat by the way!!!!!! Great Score!!!!!

Thanks Mark. I actually kind of like the imprint this one has too, I think that's a tiger in the middle? Though who knows what "Our X Quality" is even supposed to mean.

AWESOME! Great catch!

Well, if I ever get that No. 1 refurb from Bob @ Black Sheep this one might need a new home!

Thanks Jared ... that helps (and hurts). Maybe I can put that "Whippet" liner in there first. :D

Ha! I almost didn't bid in hopes that it would relisted at a lower price, but I wasn't sure if anyone was going to try and snipe it at the end. A Mallory may have at least a bit more brand recognition.

Hey, Jared!
A member from a Faceboog group I am in posted a screenshot of your hat and asked me to tell you the following:

Max Tejeda-Nichols Well, tell him that he got a really super rare piece with some great provenance. That hat was made by the Bush Hat Company. It was owned by William Henry Bush who was a prominent Chicago business man and also quite famous rancher in Texas.

Super hat Jared!
Nothing like an old mystery black BRE style hat.
The form is timeless and the sweatband is outstanding!
Excellent score Jared, and your size!

Muchas Gracias, Max! I did try to look up Bush Hat Co. but found even less information than I did on "The Superior Hat Co."
